Jose Mourinho has thrown a spanner in the works by admitting he WILL let Petr Cech join Arsenal this summer, but only if he can get a Gunner in return.
Mourinho does not want to see the 33-year-old experienced goalkeeper leave Stamford Bridge but has reluctantly agreed with Roman Abramovich to sell Cech after 11 years of service to the club.
However, Mourinho will only part company with the Czech legend on his own terms, and is prepared to play hard-ball with Arsene Wenger or any other club interested in his second-choice shot-stopper:
‘For every club that is interested in Petr, I can find a player I like in that club, too.’
Chelsea have been linked with a move for Theo Walcott, who is still yet to sign a new deal at the Emirates, and Mourinho is understood to like the look of Alex Oxlade Chamberlain as well.
So, with this in mind, should Wenger consider throwing in either Walcott or The Ox to land Cech this summer?
Personally, if Wenger desperately wants Cech at the Emirates next season and can only acquire him by handing over either Theo or Alex, then unfortunately the former has to be the man that crosses the divide – especially if he doesn’t sign a new deal.
In saying that, however, I don’t like the idea of a player-exchange deal, especially with Mourinho and Chelsea. So if we have to engage in a swap deal in order to land Cech, then I believe Wenger should look elsewhere.
