STerling RaheemRaheem Sterling’s future at Liverpool is still up in the air and is set to be one of this summer’s biggest transfer sagas, with a move to Arsenal still a possibility.

However, former Gunner Ray Parlour has urged Arsene Wenger and co. NOT to sign the 20-year-old and focus on improving other areas of the squad this summer.

Sterling is viewed as one of the Premier League’s best players and is supposedly being chased by the likes of Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

But Parlour believes signing the Liverpool forward is not a priority of Arsenal’s, and reckons Wenger should concentrate on strengthening the back-line and midfield area this summer instead:

‘I’d rather concentrate on central midfield, centre-back and maybe a goalkeeper if I was manager.

‘I always look down the spine of the team, which is so important. Look at Chelsea: Terry, Cahill, Fabregas, Matic, Costa. If you’re going to win leagues you’ve got to have that base.

‘Raheem Sterling, as a 20-year-old – people are always looking at potential and how good could he be. But you couldn’t have Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott and Sterling – I don’t think that would work.’

A number of Arsenal fans would love to see Sterling at the Emirates next season, but I think Parour is right – there are other areas like the defence and midfield that need improving. In addition, we already have Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott (if he stays) and even Serge Gnabry who I believe are better than Sterling, so why should Wenger bother shelling out the majority of his transfer kitty this summer on the Liverpool winger?

Club commitment looks shaky, do not think he will make the mix, goal keeper more a priority ,a defender, and midfielder . I do. Not think we are to far of it.

  • Catch22 says:

Defensive midfielder and centreback are the two priorities in case of injuries.
Sterling NOT a priority. Also congratulations to Arsene Wenger for winning
    back to back FA cups.

Buying Sterling will be a luxury buy at arsenal, there are already good and perhaps better players in his position. Sd buy us martinez to give Giroud a good competition for his starting place upfront. Concentrate an goal keeping area, one central back and one DM, in schineidering calibre i prefer and admire. With these will be enough to last arsenal a long season a distance to a tittle challange

  • Magary says:

Another Striker to support Giroud,Defensive Midifilder,Another Center back, are priority in order to strengthen squared.
Also congratulate Wenger for wining back FA Cup.

  • Onze says:

Arsenal need a holding midfielder than anything else.
For a goal keeper I don’t know why people are worried, D Ospina has done extremely well in 2nd half of the season and deserves credits.
Morgan Schneiderlin must be our priority.

  • Noye says:

Am of the view that arsenal need a top strike , a defensive midfielder. one central defender only .With that arsenal will be a team to come next season.
while congratulating Wenger and his boys and all arsenal fans all over the world for winning the FA CUP back to back ..

  • Grabwell Fundira says:

We need a top striker with pace,Huguian,Benzema,Jackson Martinez,a defensive midfielder to support Coquelin and a Defender.Remember Ox and the other German lad are yet to come on the scene.

  • Oryan Nunens says:

Arsenal do need Sterling as we all know that both Walcott and Oxlade are injury-prone players who in most cases cost the club with their injuries. Both Walcott and Oxlade are good yes but lets face it….they will never play more than 15 games without picking injuries and that will be the difference between Chelsea, Man UTD n Man City who will have depth in all departments…and Arsenal who will rely too much on injury-prone players with no back-up
