Newcastle 1-2 Arsenal – my player ratings

|

GiroudHere are my Arsenal player ratings from today’s 2-1 away win over Newcastle:

David Ospina – Had a fairly quiet first 45, but was called upon to make some important saves during the second 45. 6.5/10

Calum Chambers – Kept position well and looked comfortable throughout. Had some nervy moments late on but coped well. 6/10

Gabriel – Came in for Per Mertesacker and was solid on his return to the line-up. 6/10

Laurent Koscielny – Deal with the threat of Ayoze Perez and kept position well. 6.5/10

Nacho Monreal – Was not really put under pressure in the first-half but was troubled more in the second when Newcastle stepped it up a little. Decent game for the Spaniard. 6/10

Francis Coquelin – Snuffed out any trouble in the middle of the park and was once again in the wars after getting a bang in the face. Solid. 7/10

Aaron Ramsey – Could of got onto the score-sheet had it not been for a heavy touch but the Welshman always wanted the ball and kept things neat and tidy in the Arsenal midfield. 7/10

Alexis Sanchez – Made some great runs on and off the ball but looked knackered as the game wore on. In need of a rest, if possible. 6/10

Santi Cazorla – Another two more assists for the little Spaniard as he delivered the set-pieces for both of Giroud’s goals. 7.5/10

Danny Welbeck – Got into some good positions and had a few opportunities during the game. Caused Newcastle problems with his pace and direct running. 6.5/10

Olivier Giroud – Bagged a brace and led the line well with his hold-up play. Linked up well with those around him and continues his fine form against Newcastle (eight in six). 8/10

SUBS:

Tomas Rosicky – On for Sanchez with 20 minutes to go and made some good runs and passes. 5/10

Mathieu Flamini – Replaced Cazoral in the 71st minute and was told by Arsene Wenger to sit alongside Coquelin and protect the back four, which he did. 5/10

Hector Bellerin – Came on for Welbeck in the 89th minute. Had a chance to put Arsenal 3-1 up deep into injury time but spurned it. 5/10

You have been watching a different game to me Chambers and Ramsey were awful, both got caught out , lost the ball too many times, Alexis is tired and Wenger should have made the subs earlier instead of sitting there while Newcastle were carving us up, he just doesn’t get it, too stubborn and too arrogant the factors that have cost us so much in ten years

I couldn’t agree with you more..Ramsey was suppose to sit with Coquelin but was all over the pitch. ..chambers was the weak link and 2nd half Newcastle exposed him..too much pace going forward, but was exposed badly with defensive duties. .

We can’t seem to finish teams off with the decisive third goal and it may be our downfall.

Ramsey put his play too high, he should do more basic.
Coquelin was excellent so was Cazorla and of course Giroud (whom usually is not my best cup of tea) 🙂
