Heat of the moment or Wenger out?

Arsene WengerBefore our 2-1 defeat to Spurs at White Hart Lane yesterday, we were on a five match unbeaten run in all competitions, which included a 2-0 away win over Manchester City.

However, after an abysmal performance in the North London derby and a result to match, a number of Arsenal fans have once again turned on Arsene Wenger, with many of them taking to Twitter and brandishing the old #WengerOut.

It wasn’t great viewing and bragging rights this season belong to Spurs, who have taken four points from us in our two league meetings this campaign.

Wenger can be blamed for his tactical approach to the game, especially after we saw our side go 1-0 up. It seemed the Frenchman wanted to prove to us that his side can defend a 1-0 lead rather than put the Spuds to the sword. As a result, we sat back and watched our side being dominated for the majority of the game and evidently leave WHL with nothing. It was embarrassing to say the least and we have every right to feel disgruntled and aggrieved with the performance and result.

But should this one result against our bitter rivals see fans turn their back on Wenger and wield the ‘#WengerOut‘? Or is it simply just the heat of the moment for the majority?

Let us know what you think below.

Season after season Arsenal fans have always had a scape goat to aim at.Cygan, Senderous, Eboue, Song, Ramsey, you name. theyhave all had their turn. I think its AW’s turn to be booed off.
Even when we scored our first goal it seemed obvious to me that Spuds have an upper hand. We were on the backfoot from the first minute. Carzola and Ramsey had an off day in the middle of the pack and Ospina kept punching the ball into the danger zone.
Playing with 9players behind the ball and hitting Tottenham on the break seemed a perfect game plan to me. It worked at City anyway.
So, to say AW should be sacked for losing this game is simply pathetic. Granted we re out of other competitions but we to say that AW losing this game means he has lost the plot is wrong.
Morgan has never been a supporter of AW, so it doesn’t surprise me that he would come up with something like that.
LETS STOP SCAPE GOATING AND SUPPORT THE TEAM, THESE BOYS NEED US. WE SHOULD BE HOPING FOR THEM TO DO WELL.

The team set up was wrong santi ozil can’t play together in big games it’s like 9 v 11 without the ball we managed to make rise look ok in the 1st half one or the other not both against good teams it’s so immature to think we will dominate possession when we can’t get it back

Wenger is a mug. He is years behind in his tactics and training methods. In any other top club in world football he would have been turfed out years ago. Sick and tired of the man’s excuses. Just look at our appalling injury record. That’s not down to bad luck as the man says this has been going on ever since Gary Lewin left to work full time with England (nice work fergie). We’re told player after player “has a minor knock and will be out for a week or two” nine times out of ten the player is misdiagnosed and comes back too soon or aggravates the Injury through inept training methods. He only knows how to play a game one way he is incapable of changing tactics during a game. It’s all attack attack attack or sit back and hit them on the break. We could all see what was going to happen yesterday . At half time he could AND SHOULD have changed his game plan. The man is a buffoon.
Wenger should have gone 5 or 6 years ago and he could have walked away with his head held high. That time has passed. Fuck off wenger and give us our club back

You say we should “support the team”. How long exactly, have you been “supporting” Arsenal ? Not long enough it appears, to realise that it’s not just for losing THIS GAME that he should be sacked, but for his long record of negligence and tactical blunders that have cost us so many potential titles and trophies stretching back over TEN YEARS, NOT JUST ONE GAME.

Piers Morgan is absolutely correct in saying the same thing. The only issue I have with Piers is that he is fickle. When we have a good run of form, he loses sight of the bigger picture, and is easily influenced by the temporary euphoria. If he could stay consistent in his view that Wenger should go, then he’d gain a lot more credibility. His latest comments however, are classic Piers ( see here ) ; http://www.101greatgoals.com/blog/social/piers-morgan-bashed-arsene-wengers-decade-failure-losing-spurs-bbc-5-live/

Piers may be disliked by many Arsenal fans, but he speaks for many more of us in this video.

Finally, Arselicked, you would know FULL WELL that at any other MAJOR football club with a history of previous successes, Wenger would have been sacked after ten MONTHS, not YEARS. Would Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Barcelona or even our own Manchester United for example, have tolerated such a low rate of achievement ? You know the answer.

So why should Wenger be any different ? Why ? Because some of our so called “supporters” ( the A.K.B.’s ) have built an obsessive cult of personality worship around him, to the point where the club’s success has become secondary TO HIM. Which is why finishing top four is considered to be a “success”. That’s unhealthy, and whoever takes over next, should not be allowed to gain such total power and influence at our club.

      • Arselicked says:

People who have supported Arsenal for the ‘last ten years’ are the ones who don’t seem to understand whether we are coming or going.

First you can’t talk about the last ten years without talking about our ability to compete. You have to talk about the stadium move, the rise of the mega rich clubs like City and Chelsea, Man U’s ability to buy 30million pound players. To put arguments into their proper perspective. You also have to compare AW’s performance with his performance from 96 to 2004, when we were not buying cheap or youth. And also his performance against other managers.

In the last time years where we competed for the title 2008 & 2013 (both lost in March), and lost the carling cup to Birmingham and Chelsea and won the FA cup against Hull we have bought a lot of unknown players, made them good and lost them to rich clubs. Why is that? Is it because of AW. If we had changed AW, wouldn’t that have happened. I’m talking about Nasri, Fabregas, Adebayor, RVP, Song, etc. Was it because AW wanted to make more money or was it because the players wanted salary increases that were not forthcoming?

In those last ten years we have bought only 2 players who we could say we were competing with mega rich companies in Sanchez and Ozil. And this has happened recently. To me its a sign of growth. Its a sign of change from buying cheap unknowns to finally chown other teas that we can get players who can make an impact. Obvioulsy we can’t go buy 6 or 7 players who would cost that much because we might fall foul of FFP rules. So it makes sense to build slowly, toe the line and get there.

Suppose we sack AW, what would the new manager do that he won’t do. I know that people thought LVG would be the messiah at Man U, They thought Moyes was the messiah, Harry Rednapp, Andre Villas Boas, Juggen Klop, etc. The jury is still out on Koeman, Pochettino is fighting for fourth. Seems to me that only Chelsea are doing well this season, the rest ManCity, Man U, Southampton, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, etc are fighting for the last 3 champions league places.

Now which top manager would leave his club to come and struggle at Arsenal. Jose Mourhino (they love him at Chelsea), Pep Guordiola (Can he leave Bayern), Carlo Ancelotti? Diego Simeone? Shoud we bring Moyes back?

      • Arselicked says:

All that said. i feel that we wait for a loss and then we come out and say “sack the manager”.

I don’t see it improving us even one bit

  • Spectrum says:

Wenger has no right to still be manager of our club. Because he should have gone five years ago ! “Heat of the moment” reaction ? – what ? Ten whole years of failure and just one F.A. Cup to show for all the millions wasted in salary, to keep this negligent, tactically inept parasite sucking the ambition out of Arsenal. Wenger has nowhere to hide anymore. He can’t use excuses like “we have no money”, because it’s been proved beyond doubt that we do.

He can’t say we can’t compete with the mega rich big boys like Chelsea and City. But…. didn’t we just beat City a short while ago ! According to this “can’t compete” theory, that should not have been possible. The trouble is we don’t beat these teams often enough. Wenger has never beaten Mourinho in 12 attempts !

Many were saying that our win against City where we played so differently to our normal style, was down to Wenger himself changing his approach. Then later the REAL story comes out – the players THEMSELVES were allowed to decide the tactics. This sounds like an admission that Wenger hadn’t got a clue, and just handed the decisions over to the players in frustration. What a way to run a football club ! That win over City wasn’t the start of a “new era”, it was merely an aberration.

Nothing will ever change while this accountant masquerading as a manager, stays in charge.

Despite the 5 match unbeaten run leading up to yesterday’s match, let’s not lose track of the fact that we were/are still in a dog-fight for 4th place. I repeat, “a dog-fight for 4th place”!

Frankly, I’m sick of this club’s best drama being tied to an annual “dogfight for 4th place”! The club’s progress under Wenger is lost at sea. Arsenal football club has gotten no better and no worse for the last 7 years.

ARSENAL FOOTBALL CLUB HAS GOTTEN NO BETTER AND NO WORSE FOR THE LAST 7 YEARS

The club’s annual drama for 4th place has become boring. The players were not up for yesterday’s match like they should’ve been. There was no special derby passion to speak of. Their intensity wasn’t much different than when they played Aston Villa the previous week. The lack of bite and fire in the belly was also true against Liverpool last year and even against Chelsea when we got smashed on the occasion of Wenger’s 1000 game. The club needs new energy at the top.

    Sick of passionless football.
Sick of big game losses (no Man City didn’t end the problem).
Sick of stupidly finishing 2nd in group stage of CL.
Sick of idiotic transfer decisions (not re-signing 15 assist Cesc at cut-rate price because “we have Ozil”).
Sick of a team that flatters to deceive and is nowhere near a title contender.
Sick of brilliant technical football not being complimented by the tactical maturity and professionalism discipline required to win 0-1 away to the Spuds.
Sick of anticipating change every August and realizing there’s been none every May.

Wenger led this club well and brought us great teams and many trophies in the past, but now he’s stalled. Wenger has the club locked in perpetual stagnation which has persisted for 7 years. (I choose the moniker ‘4th Place Cowboy’ for obvious reasons.)

    Wenger Out!
