Borussia Dortmund are ready to sell Ikay Gundogan rather than risk losing him on a free – why should we care? Because we desperately need to add a defensive midfielder this month, that’s why.
The German international has been targeted by Manchester United in recent weeks but Arsenal, as well as Chelsea and Liverpool, have all been previously linked with a move for the 24-yar-old. And in light of this latest development and the fact that Gundogan has made it no secret that he one day wants to play in the Premier League, Arsene Wenger HAS to rekindle his interest in him as he looks to bolster his midfield options.
Prior to making 12 appearances so far for Dortmund this season, last term he featured just the one time in the Bundesliga as he was sidelined for 14 months with an injury.
Gundogan’s current deal at the Westfalenstadion expires at the end of next season but with the midfielder unlikely to extend his stay, considering his latest comments of a move to England, seeing past stars like Robert Lewandowski leave and other team-mates tipped with a move away as well, Dortmund would rather sell than risk losing him on a free.
It is suggested by the Daily Express that a bid of around £16 million would be enough to land Gundogan, who is known for his passing range, technical ability and awareness, and Dortmund are willing to offload him during the month.
He is definitely another option for Wenger to consider – it just depends on what type of midfielder he wants to bring in.
However, Gundogan, in my opinion, is one of the most effective midfielders in world football and it would be crazy of Wenger to overlook the possibility of signing him for as little as £16 million.
