Was he the right man to bring in on deadline day?

|

WelbeckSo there goes another summer transfer window, and I have to say, it was a productive by our club.

We saw Calum Chambers arrive from Southampton, David Ospina from Nice, Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle, Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona and on deadline day, Danny Welbeck from Manchester United in a last-minute deal on deadline day itself.

And while Arsene Wenger managed to acquire the services of the first four names on the list, the last one (Welbeck) certainly took everyone by surprise, especially me.

The signing of the former Manchester United forward has had mixed reactions from the Arsenal faithful as it was out of the blue.

I myself was disappointed with the signing of Welbeck, I really was.

Having been linked with the likes of Wilfried Bony, Loic Remy, Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani, Wenger opted to bring in Welbeck instead for a reported £16 million fee.

We needed a prolific striker to come in with Olivier Giroud out until the New Year, and instead of doing this, Wenger decided it was best to splash the cash on the England international, who isn’t known for his goals.

Any of the four names we were linked with above would have been perceived by the Emirates faithful as a very good signing, and while some may rate Welbeck, the Englishman isn’t the striker who can fire us to silverware, not in my opinion anyway.

But as he is now a Arsenal player, I wish Welbeck the best and proves me and others who agree with me wrong. But I have my doubts.

Lets back him !!! Strurridge did it at Liverpool and I believe Welbeck can do the same if trusted up top. He will certainly be different to Giroud (who I do like but is not the striker for the likes of Ozil to play with).

    COYG!

  • as says:

Welbeck is better than Remy and Bony, so you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about.

Woah. Give the guy a chance ffs. His style of play may well be better suited (or adapted) to the Wenger way just like Henry.

To be honest u don’t see how Bony or Remy is better than Welbeck, so you are not objective in your view.

Welbeck is the same age as Henry was when we bought him. Also Welbeck, like Henry, is a Winger who can play up front.

In the 5 years before Henry joined us, he scored 20 goals in 105 club appearances, Welbeck has scored 20 in 90 club appearances over the last 5 years.

    Just saying 🙂

The spreading of million pound names to Arsenal supporters by reporters, knowing full well that the gunners are not stupid when spending money, that in the end all the supporters can hear are names that are chucked at them day-in and day-out. In the end they were all wrong, and my oh my what a sin, after fans wanted a forward, Wenger has let them all down and only bought a full English international player. take a rain check,
so far Liverpool. Man U, Spurs, Chelsea, Everton, Have all spent millions and all have lost matches. There is no amount of money that guarantees the championship.

Have a good feeling about this one. Play him centrally and he´ll do just fine. 23 and adding to our Brittish core…

He is definitely better than playing no striker as we often do. We need to partner him with suitable players. unfortunately our selection is always very poor.

I was pissed at first, thought it was just a panic buy. We missed out on a CD and DM which would have cushioned the Welbeck blow, but he’s here now just have to give him a go. Better than no go Sanogo anyway.

I think he will do well .for me he is better geroud
Arsenals style of play will suit him well, so lets all support him.
