Should Arsenal fork out £51M to sign this top striker?

|

CavaniArsenal are still hopeful of landing PSG striker Edinson Cavani, according to reports.

Despite adding Alexis Sanchez this summer and already having the likes of Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Lukas Podolski in his ranks, Arsene Wenger looks intent to sign another forward and is willing to part with a massive £51 million to do so. This is according to Spanish journalist Kike Marin who says Arsenal are monitoring PSG’s move for Angel Di Maria, and have not ruled out one for Cavani this summer.

Marin tweeted:

‘A la espera de lo que suceda con Di María y el #PSG, el #Arsenal no descarta el fichaje de Cavani. Wenger quiere un 9 como el uruguayo.’

Any deal for Cavani, however, depends on the Ligue 1’s side pursuit of Di Maria.

PSG must offload players before adding to their current squad due to their inability to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, and with Cavani’s future in doubt at the Parc de Paris, he looks the obvious choice to depart the club.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have all been linked with the 27-year-old Uruguayan.

But with Arsenal splashing the cash and building to mount a serious challenge this season, Wenger may be prepared to spend big once again to land Cavani.

But should Arsenal target Cavani? More importantly, does a £51 million deal represent a good price for the Uruguay international?

Personally, I believe if Wenger is looking to add a striker to the squad then Cavani is probably his best option out there.

He is a proven goal scorer and works hard for the team – he could be the striker we have been craving for since Thierry Henry left the club eight years ago.

£51 million is a huge fee to part with but it represents value for money in my opinion. You have to spend big these days to land the top players and Cavani is certainly one of them. Yes, the striker will demand high wages but with many players leaving or being sold this summer, the club’s wage bill has lowered significantly.

If Wenger manages to pull off this deal then Arsenal will almost definitely be challenging for the title, perhaps even lift it come the end of the season.

If AW sign Cavani, he may allow Podolski to move on, but also it may mean a new system of play, perhap 3 man defense set-up with 3 centre backs, Gibbs and Debutcy having to change their specialities to Centre backs, i suggest. 3.5.2, 3.4.3 would be great. Imagine Sanchez, Giroud and Walcott infront of Carzola, Ramsey, Arteta, Ozil in the 3.4.3 set up! And dont even start on how powerful the Bench will be. Any three picked from Debutcy, Martesacker, Konsenly, and Gibbs would be great

Now, drop Carzola to the bench and bring in Cavani
