Arsenal’s next rising star?

|

Hector BellerinHe’s been with Arsenal since 2011 and signed his first professional contract with the club in July of last year, but Hector Bellerin showed today against Benfica at the Emirates Cup that he is here to stay for the long-term.

Plucked from Barcelona at 16, Bellerin spent the majority of his time playing for the club’s youth and reserve side and only managed to feature once for the Gunners last season in the League Cup.

In November, the Spanish full-back was loaned out to Watford, initially, up until the end of January. However, his solid defensive displays saw the Championship side extend his temporary stint until the end of the season.

Although the 19-year-old only managed to appear eight times for the Hornets last season, Bellerin displayed his talents both defensively and offensively down the right flank and Arsenal decided to recall the youngster for pre-season training.

There hasn’t been much talk of Bellerin. In truth, I don’t know a lot about the Spaniard but have seen him play in the past. But today we got a very good look at what he is capable of.

Bellerin has exceptional skill and passing range for someone so young and boy can he burst a gut up and down the flank.

Of course, Bellerin will not start week in, week out for us this season as we signed Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers to fill the void left by Bacary Sagna (Debuchy the starter and Chambers as his understudy), but Bellerin has great potential to become, one day, Arsenal’s first choice right-back. He still has a lot to learn but if he continues his development in the right way then expect to see him feature regularly in the future.

Fantastic going forward.Very weak defensively.Too many people forget that defence is the most important part of a full backs game.

He can now change the formation as he z got quality.

Was not expecting Wenger to buy a right back cause I strongly believe Jenkinson and Berelin are good enough to take us to glory again. Now he has a difficult task on his hands good for him I think.

The boy got a talent. I once saw Lauren grow as a wonderful star and this boy got all the attributes. A star in the making. Viva Wenger

Amazed by fearlessness of our rookies today. Chambers is gonna make CB his own- fingers crossed. What’s more he is English. Am Johnie the foreigner but feel nice that my beloved Arsenal grooms s future England player. Belerin surprised me with fine runs beating defenders in way I have not seen for a while in our jersey.
Sanogo may not be as talented but no lack of industry. If only many of our talents could be half as industrious.

Strangely, big names were not as good as rookies they replaced. Cazorla was a tad poor and Arteta was panicky commuting too many fouls. Whatever it was that they were fed should always be on the menu- force fed. Wonderful
