Where should Wenger play him?

Alexis SanchezAlexis Sanchez signed for Arsenal last week which had and still has the Emirates faithful buzzing about their new star.

Sanchez signed from Barcelona in a deal believed to be worth around £30-35 million on a long-term contract (depending on what reports you read) having played at the Nou Camp for three seasons where he netted 47 goals in 141 appearances in all competitions.

It is undoubtedly a major signing for the Gunners and even Spurs fans that I know admitted that Arsene Wenger did a great piece of business.

But many Arsenal fans wonder whether Wenger will sign a striker now that Sanchez is on board. This purely depends on where the Chilean will play.

So where will Sanchez feature in our side? Will it be up top, or will the 25-year-old operate in his natural position out wide.

Personally, I think we will see him deployed out on the wing.

Theo Walcott is usually placed out there by Wenger, but the Frenchman may decide to play the England international upfront this season – the position Theo wants to operate in the future.

However, we could well see Sanchez play upfront at times as his pace, power and trickery could well frighten opposition defences.

But with Olivier Giroud still on our books, I just can’t see Wenger leaving him out of the side, and for this reason alone, I think Sanchez will play on either side of the front three with Walcott on the opposite side and Giroud as the lone centre-forward.

In any case, Sanchez is a superb signing and hopefully he can produce the same or if not better performances for us as he did for Udinese and Barcelona.

Left of the front three I hope. Alexis, Giroud and Walcott would be scintillating!

Wenger make the wise decision when it comes to chooseing of players.

Left of Giroud. Walcott on the other side.
With the Ox behind, that would be awesome!

Great addition to the team I expect he will be used initially in theo’s position but if we sign Khedira then ramsey might be moved there and he will play on the left as i do not think Girroud will loose his place. Signing Khedira would be a quality addition but you would have to look at futures for Santi, wilshire and ox as they cant all be accomodated. Then we have to consider Rosiky and Diaby as they will not even make the bench. If we sign Remi as well then Poldi and Cambell will surely be moving on. In saying all that i would welcome improvement to quality and accept the sacrifices to popular squad players. Team i would like to line up versus palace: szczesny, debucy, gibbs, BFG, Kos, Arteta, Khedira, Ozil, Ramsey, Sanchez and Girroud with a new keeper, TV5, Monreal, Flamini, Santi or jack, Ox and Remi or poldi or cambell on the bench as you can see some popular names will have to depart.

Özil behind lone striker flanked by sanchez on the left and Theo on the right, with Ramsey supporting oil and a good anchorman to sweep things and cover back four

  • seydave says:

Supporting Özil will work a lot better than supporting oil

Humm for me it doesn’t matter where Wenger posts him. The most important is that he is one who will not play against us now. Remember how scary he was when England played Chile in friendly? Definitely better to have him in your team than the opponents
