Arsene Wenger’s decision not to bring in a forward during the January transfer window and rely on 21-year-old Yaya Sanogo to deliver the goods instead left many of the Emirates faithful scratching their heads.
But it seems Wenger will almost certainly look to sign a striker at the end of the season.
The Gunners were linked with a number of front men during the winter window but they never managed to acquire one.
Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata came closest to join Arsenal on loan in January but the move fizzled out with the 21-year-old opting to remain at the Bernabeu.
However, it is believed Arsenal have agreed personal terms with the player but a transfer fee is yet to be arranged between the two clubs. But reports in Spain claim Real have told Arsenal that they must pay £25 million to get their hands on Morata in the summer.
Although Morata may consider a switch to the Emirates following a lack of game time under Carlo Ancelotti at Real, Wenger may well reconsider making a move for the Spain Under-21 international with the price set at £25 million.
But there’s still time for Wenger to barter with Real over the transfer fee and no decision over the price will be made until the end of the season.
Personally, if the asking price is £25 million for Morata, then I think Wenger should look elsewhere. Although the Spaniard looks an exciting prospect with a lot of potential, he’s still unproven.
More than likely there will be better options out there for Wenger to consider for the price Real want for Morata. So I think unless the price is lowered I think Arsene should steer clear of this potential deal.
I lov arsenal fc
I really can’t figure out why anyone would pay 25M for Morata. Our defenders have probably scored more goals this season than Morata has in La Liga. Being a star in Segunda Liga is nowhere near criteria for that price tag. I’d much rather spend 15M of that for someone like Alexandre Lacazette or hell add another 15M and try for Costa – at least he has a real scoring record. If Wenger takes that bait he’d have wasted alot of money.
