Diego CostaMany names have and continue to be linked with a move to Arsenal. Two names in particular that were mentioned repeatedly were Schalke’s Julian Draxler and Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa – both, I’m sure you would agree, quality players in their own right, and two signings which would no doubt fit the bill at Arsenal.

But although Draxler has great potential and is regarded as Germany’s next big thing, a number of fans may agree that signing a striker is more of a priority for the club this summer – even more so if Olivier Giroud makes a surprise exit from the Emirates following personal issues off the pitch, and Gunners icon Robert Pires firmly concurs with this assertion.

In fact, Pires, who won five major trophies with Arsenal, has not only said a striker is needed, but out of Draxler and Costa, the Gunners should sign the latter.

The former France international said:

‘If Diego Costa’s release clause is £32m and Draxler costs around £38m there is no doubt. I would sign Costa.

‘If Wenger has two forwards he can even play with both up front.

‘Liverpool do that with Luis Suarez or Sturridge and when I played we use to play with Henry and Bergkamp up front.’

He finished off by saying:

‘Signing Diego Costa would be great news.’

If I had to choose from either seeing Draxler or Costa sign for us then it would have to be the Brazilian forward. We lack a prolific striker and Costa is certainly one. It will no doubt be hard to acquire him from Atletico with the season their having, but if there is a £32 million release clause in his current deal then Arsene Wenger should consider activating it before it increases.
