Were we too hasty in getting rid of this man?

gervinhoA few days ago, Gervinho refused to look back and label his time at Arsenal as a failure, which would’ve no doubt got the Emirates faithful discussing the topic once again.

Countless Arsenal fans debate whether or not the 26-year-old was giving enough time to adjust and showcase his talent in his two year stint at the Emirates, while others suggest the Ivorian was simply not cut out for Premier League football.

But after moving to Roma last summer in a deal worth approximately £8 million, the Ivory Coast forward has rediscovered the form which first attracted Arsene Wenger’s attention while he was playing for Lille.

So far this season, Gervinho has managed to score eight goals in 21 appearances (18 as a starter) in all competitions and, to be fair, the he has adapted extremely well to the Serie A and also playing some fine football for the Giallorossi.

Now considering our lack of striking options at the club and Gervinho’s current form this season, were we too hasty in getting rid of him last summer?

The Ivorian does possess some quality, most notably his dribbling skill, pace and ability to get by his marker, and is actually not that bad of a player when he’s on it. However, for some reason or another, Gervinho wasn’t able to perform consistently for us, leaving us hurling abuse at him and questioning Wenger’s decision to sign him. Obviously Arsene thought the same thing.

If I’m honest, I wasn’t a huge admirer of the Ivory Coast international – his inconsistency and selfish play at times was frustrating to watch. It was almost as if he was trying to hard to impress us and it unfortunately backfired on him.

A lot of fans will say he wasn’t given the time to adjust, but two seasons is a long time in football.

Yes Gervinho is proving his doubters wrong nowadays, performing consistently and scoring goals for Roma this season. But remember where he’s playing his football currently guys…in Italy – The Serie A isn’t exactly the fastest and most competitive league in the world is it?

In my opinion, Gervinho had enough time to show us and especially Wenger what he could do but the Ivorian failed to impress and I’m sorry to say it mate but you will be labelled as an Arsenal flop whether you like it or not.

Did Arsenal get rid of Gervinho too early?

I think he is maybe a streak player that plays well when his confidence is up and frustratingly poorly when his head is not quite there. The player I think we got rid of too quickly and never really showed enough faith in is Carlos Vela. What a player he has proved to be..Big shame

He was a head-less chicken at Arsenal.
Just goes to show how strong the English premier league is..

As for gervinWHO slagging off our club & manager… well, what a wanker he truly is.

Gervinho wasn’t good enough. Good riddance

He didn’t suit the EPL. He may be a fast player but for someone of his build he lacked power and presence. In Serie A it’s slower and more technical which is why he’s thrived so well at Rmoa – he can use his good dribbling and technical skills.
