jackson martinezPorto’s Jackson Martinez recently stated he ‘wouldn’t hesitate’ to accept an offer from Arsenal, and with our striking options depleting before our eyes, perhaps targeting the Colombian forward would be wise.

But who is Martinez?

Is he really as good as people say he is?

Well for those who are unfamiliar with him, here are six things you should know about Martinez:

1. Well, one word to describe the 27-year-old is prolific. Since joining Porto in summer 2012 from Jaguares de Chiapas, where he netted 37 goals in 80 appearances over three seasons, Martinez has netted 49 goals in 64 appearances in all competitions.

2. English football journalist Tim Vickery once described him as ‘an out-and-out goalscorer, a front-to-goal centre-forward who can finish with both feet.’

3. Martinez is believed to have a £50 buyout clause in his existing contract (set to expire in 2016) but interested clubs could well get onto the negotiation table if they offer around £30 million for his services.

4. Martinez is a Colombia international who has won 25 caps and scored eight goals for his country so far.

5. Liverpool, Chelsea, Napoli, Spurs and Arsenal have all shown an interest in Martinez in the past. However, the Gunners seem to be in pole position for his signature with the striker revealing his admiration for the north London club since he was a kid.

6. Although his off-the-ball movement and touch isn’t something to rave about, the Colombian possesses pace, strength, is good in the air and is a natural goal-scorer. A typical fox-in-box, something we could well do with.

To finish off, here is a video of the Colombian in action:

I would rather suggest Wenger buy him for he is a long time fan and will play is heart out for the club. We need a natural front to goal striker not a back to goal who could not do an individual effort to score. He will inject a different dimension in our current attack.

actually I wonder what wenger is waiting for, Martinez loves arsenal and on top he’s a goal-machine..what puzzles me is the way wenger is reluctant to get his signature, if you don’t get what you want (Costa in this case) have what you get (Martinez) .
