Gunners weigh up bid for Celtic centre-back

|

Virgil Van DijkArsenal and Manchester City are weighing up bids for Celtic centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

The Daily Star reports both clubs have sent scouts out to watch the Dutchman this season and could both make bids for the 22-year-old.

Van Dijk signed for Celtic for £1.6 million from Groningen in the summer on a four-year deal.

The towering defender, who stands at 6’4’’, still has three-and-a-half years left on his existing deal, but Celtic could be tempted to sell Van Dijk, who is valued at around £10 million, if the right offer comes in before the month ends.

Van Dijk, a Holland Under-21 international, has scored three goals in 26 appearances in all competitions for Celtic so far this season.

A centre-back isn’t exactly on top of our wish-list this month, a striker or winger would be more ideal.

However, we could probably do with another centre-back to call upon should one or both of Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker be unavailable for any reason, or IF, and this is a big IF, Thomas Vermaelen decides he wants to leave the club to boost his World Cup chances.
