Do we REALLY need him?

|

julian draxlerJulian Draxler has been strongly linked with a £37 million move to Arsenal this month, but it seems a deal won’t happen this January after Arsene Wenger newly dismissed it.

The Frenchman has ruled out a move for the 20-year-old German because he has enough players who can operate on the flank and go forward from midfield (17 to be exact).

However, with six days left to go before the January transfer window closes, many Arsenal fans believe a move for Draxler can still occur – even if Wenger says it won’t.

But while the majority of the fans would love to see Draxler sign for Arsenal, do we really require his services?

Draxler is being labelled as the next German star in the making and I hear many people raving about his talent and flair.

From what I’ve seen, Draxler has huge potential and those endorsing his ability are not doing it just to be heard – the youngster can back his hype up.

Since breaking through the Schalke first-team in 2011, Draxler has quickly established himself as a regular and their go to guy.

Known for his super technical ability, vision and creativity, Draxler has so far made a total of 121 appearances for Schalke, contributing 25 goals and 18 assists. This season, however, has been one of his less productive since he was promoted to Schalke’s senior side, scoring just four goals and creating six in 22 games in all competitions thus far. But his potential is there for all to see and if he were to make the switch to the Emirates, either this January or at the end of the season, no doubt Wenger will mould him into a world-class talent.

He looks an exciting prospect but nevertheless, I don’t think we necessarily need him at the moment.

As Wenger recently stated, we already have a number of options where Draxler can operate, and the fee itself (£37 million) looks a little off putting to me, even if he is as good as people make him out to be.

With that being said, however, many will point out the obvious need for reinforcements as we head into the business end of the season and, more importantly, depth is vital to any team succeeding – something we have struggled with in previous years (that and depth!).

Would love to see him join us but not a player we desperately need in my opinion.

Do we really need Draxler?

    yes we do!

Yes we do. When we signed Ozil, we were loaded with midfielders and didn’t really need him but look at the impact that he has made.

What impact has he made? We were the best EPL team in 2013 and were riding high even before Mesut Ozil turned up. I’m still not convinced that Mesut Ozil isn’t a luxury signing, who makes us feel good more than anything.

I don’t think we’ll see the best of Ozil till next year. It’s unbelievable how shortsighted people are. This is a player who is 24 and already one of the best midfielders in the world. Ive noticed thst a lot of the great work he does is without the ball, which of course people do not see. hes gotta be making amazing runs from the halfway line and score spectacular goals in every game to be a great player huh. To imagine that he’s going to get better is scary! Coming from a league that had winter breaks to one that doesn’t I’m sure is not easy. Once he gets used to that he’ll show his real ability. The lift he’s given the ENTIRE club, not just the players is more than worth it

The decrease in productivity this season is a result of being shifted from is preferred central position out to the left wing. When central he is extremely productive.

I rather we hold back and bid for Cavani this summer. Draxler will be unable to make an impact unlike Ozil. As he is not enough to bolster an influence in play, especially he will be recovering from injury until March!

Cavani! Be realistic arsenal will not go for cavani. I think a deal should be agreed for draxler to come in the summer but we should still get someone to help giroud up front. We have tough games up ahead and in my eyes podolski, bendtner are unconvincing backups. Poldi is better off on the left and nik is better off in the lower half of the premier league table

I believe in the long term, he would prove to be a good fit. If it is true Wenger wishes to covert him to a RVP type of player, Wenger would have analysed him very carefully. Foe a twenty year old he is very expensive, therefore, he must have fantastic potential, for Wenger to pay so much money. Wenger wishes to avoid a bidding war, in the summer, and so it would be sensible to try things up as quickly as possible.

We all know what happened with the Mata and Hazard deals. Arsenal have to sign the best players as soon as possible. Wenger may surprise all of us and get someone, the media had not been speculating on, COYG

    • ive says:

well said, if we fail to sign him now forget signing him after the world cup , mata / hazzard all over again . we arsenal supporters do not come across as intellectually wise !!

  • gidigooner says:

We do not DESPERATELY need him. If he comes, someone will have to leave. In midfield alone we have Ozil, Cazorla, Rosicky, Ramsey, Arteta, Flamini, Wilshere, Gnabry, Walcott and Podolski (are better of as wingers) little ones like Zelalem and talk of Diaby coming back if he ever does 🙂 If he comes, someone leaves! Wenger should just get a striker already, whoever it is!!!!!!!!

  • Ernie says:

This is a guy who is 20 yrs old, already playing for one of the best national teams in the world. If Madrid are willing to pay over 80 mil for bale after just one great season then draxler is worth 37 mil. That’s how the market is now. He’s already ahead of schedule in his development. Plus he’ll be a very marketable player. Signing these type of players is not only about talent. It’s the whole package. And people talking about how he’s a midfielder and we don’t need more should realize that draxler has all the attributes needed to be a top class center forward. He’s strong and tall, isn’t afraid to head the ball, quick, skillful and can play across the entire midfield as well. And he’s two footed! All those attributes don’t come together in one player very often. He’s got a little bit of everything. They just need to be polished

  • Anon says:

He might just offer us some qualities we are lacking at the mo… barring AOC and Gnabry we are light in terms of fast players on the wings. Plus I hear he is technically excellent, two footed and has an eye for a pass as well as a goal.

Overall, he sounds like the type of player any one would want and what are the chances we will not get any more injuries? Could be a very astute purchase, considering Wenger could turn him into a striker and effectively double his transfer worth… Not that we are a club looking to sell any more but he is only 20 or so.

  • arsenixdave says:

Ofcourse yes..there we wil b top wth several goals kpng in mind of the chances that ozil has created yet they av bn wasted…nt evn city wil b avng mo goals than us…n rem dat he’l b made a centre forward nt a midfielder as people are sayn….let him b signed coz afta wc he’l b sth £60 since the fame wl increase n ul fnd hm avng anatha contract wth the club
