ValbuenaMathieu Valbuena is back on Arsenal’s shortlist, with Arsene Wenger weighing up a move for the Marseille winger when the January transfer window opens, according to the El Mundo Deportivo as reported by the Daily Mirror.

The Spanish publication reportedly claims the Gunners, along with Napoli and Atletico Madrid are eyeing up a move for the 29-year-old Frenchman.

Wenger already has a number of midfield options available to him, but is lacking natural width and pace in his side and Valbuena, who is contracted to Marseille until 2017, could be the man to offer both to his fellow countryman.

I hope this isn’t just a rumour – I would like to see a player like Valbuena come in this January as he would make a great addition. We lack width and pace, someone to get in behind opposition defenders and deliver decent balls into the box. We only have Theo Walcott who can do this at the moment and although Valbuena is a right winger, I’m sure, if he were to be signed, he could play on the opposite side and cut in and shoot on his preferred right foot.

I don’t know how much he would go for if he’s put up for sale of course, but I would think, taking into account he still has three-years left on his current deal at Marseille, something in the region of £10-12 million would be enough to land him.
