Gunners Set For Success But Not In League

Arsene Wenger + Steve BouldArsenal went into the two-week international break as Premier League leaders but doubts remain over whether they can last the distance.

The Gunners have been almost faultless since losing on the opening day to Aston Villa. Before their draw at West Brom last time out, they had won five in a row in the league, including victory over rivals Tottenham.

Arsene Wenger’s side have also started their Champions League bid in impressive fashion. Whilst losing to Dortmund midweek they still remain top of the group having beaten Marseille and Napoli and they should be optimistic about their chance of progression out of the group stage.

Arsenal have looked strong all over the park, particularly so in midfield. Aaron Ramsey has gone from scapegoat to one of Arsenal’s key men. He has already scored eight goals and has contributed much more with his box-to-box style.

Mesut Ozil has had a huge impact since his £42.4million switch from Real Madrid. The Germany international has three assists in just four games and could be the man to inspire Arsenal to a first trophy since 2005.

That silverware is unlikely to be the Premier League title, despite an excellent start. BetVictor has Arsenal at 5/1 to take the crown, only behind Manchester City and Chelsea in the betting stakes.

Those two sides are likely to overtake the Gunners in the coming weeks and move clear of them as the campaign progresses courtesy of their superior squads.

There is also Arsenal’s tendency to slip up in games they should win. Although they have not done so since their defeat to Villa, there is always a sense another surprise reverse is around the corner.

Arsenal fans do have plenty of reasons to be optimistic, though. They are watching their side play exciting football and win.

With the likes of Ozil and Santi Cazorla in the Gunners line-up, they could well end their trophy drought this term, although a title triumph is asking a bit too much.

our chances of success in the premier league are probably greater than in the champions league. we have the best (most consistent) record in the EPL since Jan. 1st. Of course no one would give better than even odds of our winning either. And while I expect to reach the knockout round in the CL it should be noted that both Napoli and Dortmund have the advantage, neither losing at home. We must win at their home to assure success. I very much like our chances better over the long haul of the EPL.
