‘No, he will not join us’

Robert PiresRobert Pires is currently training with the Arsenal squad, leading to speculation that Arsene Wenger will re-sign the experienced French winger.

Despite doubting the prospect of signing Mathieu Flamini, Wenger snapped up the former AC Milan midfielder on a free this summer following a spell training with the Gunners.

However, Wenger has dismissed suggestions Pires will follow in Flamini’s footsteps and re-sign the former invincible.

The 39-year-old, who has been a free agent since leaving Aston Villa in 2011, spent six years at Arsenal under Wenger, but Le Boss insists he will not be signing the ex-France international.

When asked about the possibility of bringing Pires back to the club, Wenger replied:

‘No, he will not join us. He is still very fit – occasionally he comes to practice.’

As much as Pires is a legend, I’m glad to hear Wenger is not considering re-signing him. Great player in the past but, without sounding disrespectful, Bobby’s better days are well behind him.

If anything Wenger should try and persuade the ageing winger to sign on as a coach of the club.
