My Arsenal player ratings from today’s game v Spurs

|

Olivier GiroudMy Arsenal player ratings from today’s 1-0 win against Spurs (feel free to argue or agree with me):

Wojciech Szczesny – Made some good saves today and dealt with what was thrown at him. Made a superb reaction save in the second half which kept Arsenal in the game. 7/10

Carl Jenkinson – Felt he struggled to deal with the trickery of Nacer Chadli and pace of Danny Rose (when he came forward) in the first 45, and thought this game may have come too early for him this season. But in the second 45 Jenko composed himself and kept things nice and simple with his passing and movement. Defended well. 6.5/10

Per Mertesacker – Like his centre-back partner, I don’t think the German put a foot wrong. Was positioned well throughout and read the game superbly. 7/10

Laurent Koscielny – Strong in the tackle and showed why he is Arsenal’s best defender by far. 8/10

Kieran Gibbs – Like Jenkinson, Gibbs struggled to handle Andros Townsend until the Spurs winger came off. After this, the left-back got more into the game and defended much better than he did in the first-half. 6.5/10

Jack Wilshere – Passed the ball around well and his movement off and on the ball was good until he was substituted in the 43rd minute due to stomach cramps. 6/10

Aaron Ramsey – Ran his socks off, which is what I like to see! Misplaced a few passes but he touched the ball more than any other Arsenal player today (82). Promising performance from the Welshman. 7/10

Tomas Rosicky – Always looked for the slide-rule pass and was willing to get stuck in. Not his best performance but the Czech midfielder did well by keeping things neat and tidy until he was replaced in the 78th minute. 7/10

Santi Cazorla – Tested their goalkeeper early on with two short-range free-kick, with the first being parried away and the other creeping just wide of the post. Showcased his passing range once again and used his quick feet to elude opposing players. Always looked to drive the team forward. 7.5/10

Theo Walcott – Was fairly quite for me today. Set-up the winner but did nothing noticeable after that. Made a few good runs forward and tried to find space to launch a counter attack. 6.5/10

Olivier Giroud – The French forward pretty much everything in the air today and always looked to bring his team-mates into play. Netted a beautiful tap in with the outside of his left boot and worked hard for the side by chasing balls down. Three goals in three Premier League games for Giroud now. Man of the Match. 8.5/10

SUBS:

Mathieu Flamini – Came on for Wilshere in the 43rd minute. Got stuck in and marshalled the midfield, telling all those around him where they should be. Commanding performance by the Frenchman and hope to see him play more games than we expect. 7/10

Nacho Monreal – Replaced Rosicky in the 78th minute and was told to help out Gibbs on the left. Had a great chance from close range late on but the ball was clipped away by (I think) Kyle Walker. 5/10

Bacary Sagna – Sagna came on for Theo late on and was deployed as another centre-back. N/A

I was at the game in the clock end so had a good view of the shape and movement all game. For me Laurent Koscielny was man of match, he didn’t put a foot wrong and looked so solid. I think you have been a bit harsh with Walcott. His pace early on scared the Tottenham defence causing them to drop deeper and giving santi more and more space. Both of them destroyed Capoue.
