Semi AjayiArsenal have signed youngster Semi Ajayi on a free transfer from Charlton.

Although the Gunners are yet to confirm the move, the 19-year-old revealed his delight at signing for Arsene Wenger’s side:

‘Thank you everyone for the messages wishing me well on my move to Arsenal I’ve been overwhelmed by the amount and I’m truly grateful.

‘It was sad to end my ten year spell with charlton this summer but I can’t speak highly enough of all of the wonderful people I met during my ten years there & I wish all those at @CAFCofficial the best for the future as I will always have a soft spot for the club & it’s fans.’

The central defender went on to say:

‘Delighted to announce that I have officially signed for @Arsenal FC. Can’t wait to see what the next two seasons here have in store for me.’

Ajayi failed to make a first-team appearance for the Championship side and spent part of last season on loan at Dartford.

It is thought Norwich were tracking Ajayi, who has won three caps for the Nigeria Under-20’s, but the Crayford-born youngster opted to sign for his boyhood club Arsenal following a successful trial at the Emirates.

Ajayi penned a two year-deal and recently featured for the Arsenal Under-21 squad against Blackburn and West Brom, scoring a header against the former of the two clubs mentioned.

Wenger is renowned for seeking out and bringing in exciting, young talent to Arsenal. And the Frenchman looks to have signed another in Ajayi, who will continue his development at Under-21 level for the next two seasons.
