‘It’s necessary for the club to recruit another striker’

|

Olivier GiroudOlivier Giroud wants Arsene Wenger to bring in a new striker before the transfer window shuts. This coming a day after the disastrous 3-1 home defeat to Aston Villa at The Emirates.

The 26-year-old forward, who netted Arsenal’s only goal on Saturday afternoon and managed to score 12 Premier League goals last season, has urged Wenger to sign a striker to help him share the goal-scoring burden, as there is currently a lack of options upfront at the club.

The France international was quoted in the Daily Mail saying :

‘In my opinion, it’s necessary for the club to recruit another striker.

‘Obviously, I think about it a little bit. It may change the play one day, especially if it’s a high profile signing.

‘It’s useless lamenting this though. I know what I have to do and what I’m capable of. I’m focusing on me and my work. The coach is counting on me, so I don’t think too much.’

Having watched the game over the weekend, I couldn’t agree more with Giroud. We definitely need to acquire another striker before the transfer window closes because when Giroud isn’t firing we have no one who can step up to the plate – no one prolific anyway. We are back to square one (the year when we relied on Robin van Perise) and this is worrying. How this has happened, I do not know.

Hopefully Wenger hears ours (the fans) and the players’ calls for new signings and stops being so pig-headed about splashing the cash. We all can’t be wrong and he’s the only one that’s right, right?

Following the defeat to Villa do you guys think Arsenal need to sign another forward this summer as Giroud suggests?
