£22 million – this is the sum Atletico Mineiro have quoted to sell Brazilian starlet Bernard.
Arsenal, Spurs, Shakhtar Donetsk and Porto have all been linked with a move for the 20-year-old.
And Mineiro’s director, Eduardo Malu, has told the four clubs that the Brazilian outfit that they will only consider selling Bernard if an offer of £22 million arrives this summer:
‘The president has already made very clear, if an offer of £22m arrives, he is going to sell and we will buy another player.
‘If this offer did not appear, Bernard will stay at Atletico. He is young and can leave at the end of the year.’
However, despite increasing interest in Bernard, the diminutive winger remains focused on matters at Mineiro, saying his future depends on whether the club want him or not:
‘I’ll keep working until the board decides something about the transfer.
‘There are offers from English football, Shakhtar and Porto.
‘I have said a thousand times that I want to stay, but it doesn’t depend on me now.
‘I made it clear that, if I stay or not, I wanted to leave here with an important title.
‘It’s up to God to decide if I stay or not, up to God, Atletico Mineiro’s presidency and the board.’
With Gervinho highly likely to depart Arsenal for Roma, bringing a winger may well be a priority for Arsene Wenger this summer.
But would Bernard fit the bill at the Emirates? More importantly, is he worth his £22 million valuation that Mineiro has slapped on him?

Incredible talent! I have no doubt that if Wenger signed him he would soon push Walcott or Podolski out of the starting 11! There is a reason the Brazilian fans cheer him more than they cheer Neymar!
I really hope we buy Bernard…he would be a really exciting wildcard for next season. His nickname at Mineros is ‘the little warrior’ and his dribbling skills are sick. My only concern is that he will no doubt be a little light on the defensive side of his game and will leave the left back exposed. But in games where we must break down defences he will hopefuly provide the trickery option that Gervinho never really made work. £22 million …that is quite high but I doubt that Porto of Shaktar would go that high. If it were me I would pay it, but then again no one has bid near to that yet…

I dont think this guy will cut it in our team. Spend the money elsewhere where we really need it like a centre back. Maybe another central midfielder also. Grab Cesar on the free will give good competition in goals

Please Wenger proceed with the signing we are making it too late almost all the time putting our reputation in danger and indecisively forced to pay more than what should have been paid earlier. Always we make our decisions in a rush and at last minutes. Not very far for sure we will be making worse decisions, not to mention many bad decisions we did recently leaving our club missing cups. We are a bigger club and we need to balance between owners satisfaction and funs satisfaction. We are making the club’s success anyway therefore we should not be ignored completely.
