Funny how things develop in the market

Gonzalo HiguainIt’s funny how things develop in the transfer window. One minute we have a deal in place to sign Gonzalo Higuain from Real Madrid for around £23 million, the next we hear he is staying at the Bernabeu and is newly wanted by Chelsea, with Arsenal’s Champions League chances not looking so great again. I mean what is actually going on with this ‘deal’? I thought this one was in the bag! Apparently I was wrong.

Is Higuain coming to Arsenal this summer? Honestly, I don’t think he is, and I think Arsene Wenger has realised this as well, hence his pursuit of Luis Suarez in recent weeks.

However, the Frenchman looks set to lose both of his targets in quick succession, with Brendan Rodgers stating Suarez will remain at Liverpool and Higuain claiming in the Spanish press today that he is wanted by Jose Mourinho and could still be apart of Carlo Ancelotti’s plans at Real.

The fact is time is running out and we have only managed to sign a France Under-21 international from Auxerre on a free. The Higuain deal should have been wrapped up by now and joined our squad for the pre-season tour in Asia. While this Suarez pursuit looks to be going nowhere as well.

I know this may come across as a negative post, but I am simply expressing my concern over the lack of movement from Arsenal in the market. It just looks like history is going to repeat itself once again – get linked with a number of marquee/quality players and end up scrambling to find recruits on deadline day.

Not a happy Gooner at the moment.

    Your frustration is justified but this time around its probably not Wenger’s fault . I believe he’s genuinely trying to strengthen his squad but finds himself out of his comfort zone. Firstly , Wenger isn’t used to having large transfer kitty available to him so he might be excused for acting like a kid in a candy shop, not knowing what to spend his money on. Secondly, Arsenal shot them self in the foot by making it known how much money they are willing to spend in this transfer window , thus anabling selling clubs to hold out for top dollar for their players. Thirdly, the market is more overpriced then ever before with clubs like Monaco and PSG increasing the number of free spending clubs competing for signatures of handful superstars. And fourthly, Arsenal aren’t as attractive destination as many fans would like to believe. Many years of selling their top players have contributed to club’s decline , making the top talent hesitant to join us , especially when they can win trophies and make more money at other clubs. The only way to break this vicious cycle is to pay asking prices or perhaps even a premium on top of asking price, and that will never happen with Wenger in charge of negotiations.

    Leave the professionals and secret minded fellows to deal with transfers. Let every fan sit down and rest backwards and wait for the end of the window before reacting. I am particularly of the opinion that no fan of Arsenal should bust a nerve or develop blood pressure because of Asene Wenger.

    The popular adage goes “if u can’t beat them u join them “….when will arsenal compete, nobody will desert the market for arsenal alone to buy at their lazy pace,ARSENAL go out there & compete with ur mates u claim to be a big club…where will u compete on mars?…u can’t compete on the pitch,in transfers…always looking for excuses for mediocrity…wenger is signing no marquee names….leopard can never change it’s spots….

    The fact is that Arsenal have been gazumped by Real Madrid. A fee was agreed and permission given to us to talk terms with the player. They now have put the price up substantially, supposedly from 23 million to 35 million. We should have nothing more to do with this deal, Real Madrid are acting appallingly, they have no morals and no scruples. Imagine you agree a price for a house, instruct a solicitor to proceed and then just before completion get told by the seller that he is putting the price up substantially. I and most people would tell the seller to f**k off, and rightly so. That is what we should say to Real Madrid. If Chelsea want to pay 35 million for a player who was probably overpriced at 23 million then more fool them.

      Mick,
      Your line of thought is exactly where every Arsenal fan should be right now. Instead of moaning that we haven’t spent £X amount, we should be looking at whether the player is worth it. What ever way you look at it, we Arsenal fans are the ones who pay for these players at the end of the day, whether it’s through merchandise, tickets, money from TV companies or money from sponsors (which they only get from us in the first place) so we are only ripping ourselves off if we do spend £35 Million on a player no one was offering £25 Million for 2 weeks ago (especially as he has not kicked a ball since in order to justify that increase.)

    It all comes down to money these days;
    acting out of a somewhat romantic ground makes wenger come threw as an alien.
    you should prefer this in the long term better than . . .

    [ya, he by now should have developed to a more critical view at either of the opposites, you might judge. . .]
