illarramendi1The Sun suggests Arsene Wenger is eyeing up a summer move for Real Sociedad’s Asier Illarramendi.

The 23-year-old was in outstanding form for Sociedad last season, helping them qualify for the Champions League for the first time, and was also a key figure in Spain’s Under-21 Championship triumph in Israel this month.

And it is thought Wenger has been keeping tabs on the defensive midfielder as he looks to strengthen his squad ahead of next season.

Illarramendi, who made 32 La Liga appearances last season and contributing two assists along the way, is believed to be valued at around £10 million and still has five-years left to run on his existing deal.

Having watched him a couple of times in the Under-21 championships, I reckon he would be seen a smart signing for us – one that wouldn’t cost us a lot of cash in both wages and transfer fees.

He is a hardworking midfielder who possesses a great passing range and is very composed on the ball.

Although he wouldn’t be on many Arsenal fans’ lists this summer, I wouldn’t mind Wenger snapping Illarramendi, as he has a bright future ahead and would form good midfield partnerships with the likes of Jack Wilshere and Mikel Arteta.
