WIll Arsenal’s season be over if they lose tomorrow as he suggests?

|

Marc OvermarsFormer Gunner Marc Overmars believes Arsenal’s season will be finished if they fail to win against Spurs tomorrow afternoon.

The Gunners currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, two points behind fourth placed Chelsea and four adrift of Andre Villas-Boas’ side who currently sit third.

And Overmars, who spent three seasons at Arsenal, insists if Arsenal want to finish in the top four this season then they cannot afford to drop any points against their North London rivals at White Hart Lane:

‘Sunday is crucial for them.

‘At this moment in the Premier League, it is very difficult for Arsenal. They have to win the match. If they don’t, the season is over.’

A negative result tomorrow will no doubt heap even more pressure on Arsene Wenger, who looks almost certain to go an eight successive season without silverware and could, for the first time since joining Arsenal, finish outside the top four in the Premier League.

I for one agree with Overmars. A poor result will be hard to recover from, especially a loss to the club that THINK is bigger and better than us.

Its time for our players to stand up and be counted for, and to show all those doubters out there that we are still a top four side.

We have the capacity to beat tottenham certainly provided we dont start slowly as in all our other big games this season.Controlling the midfield will be key i think as we’re not defensively solid enough to play deep and counter attack

If we lose to the Spuds tomorrow, I think we will struggle for a top 4 finish, we would then have to rely on other results going our way.. We are as good as out of the CL (barring a miracle against Bayern Munich) so a top 4 finish (once again) is the best we can hope for.. On paper we should beat them, but much depends on how we start the game, if we are slow out of the blocks as we have been in most of the big league games this year, then we will be punished.. I expect Spurs to score first though (they usually do in Derby games) but we need to be on even terms at the very least at half time.. Nerves will effect both teams and mistakes will occur so Arsenal have to be clinical In front of goal and make the chances that come our way count… Looking forward to watching the game, I just hope our players come prepared to give everything they have…

Loosing tomorrow won’t be such a big deal. If one has to look at the fixtures ahead Chelsea and Spurs have tough games and they have to play each other.
Clearly Arsenal have the easier finish that the other two Champion League contenders.

However I feel that by loosing we may bring on more pressure and to be honest its just what we don’t need at the moment.

A draw will be a kind result though. It will bring 3rd place more into play.
