Wenger to shake things up in the goalkeeping department

|

Arsene WengerArsene Wenger will be looking to reinforce his goalkeeping department in general this summer, reports The Sunday Mirror.

The Frenchman will enter the summer transfer window in search of a new shot-stopper to challenge Wojciech Szczesny, who has had a mixed season to say the least, and is also exploring the possibility of recruiting either Jens Lehmann or David Seaman to come in as a goalkeeping coach.

Lukasz Fabianski stepped in to replace Szczesny on Wednesday night against Bayern Munich, as the latter was mentally fatigued, and Fabianski managed to keep a clean sheet in Germany and kept his place in the side against Swansea yesterday afternoon, keeping yet another clean sheet in the process.

Despite Fabianski’s impressive displays, many of the Arsenal faithful still believe Wenger needs to sign a more assured goalkeeper in the summer, and The Sunday Mirror claims the Frenchman wants to sign an experienced keeper to contend with Szczesny and then act as the 22-year-old’s mentor in the long-term.

Lehmann made a shock return to Arsenal two years ago, making just the one appearance, but was praised by Szczesny who says the German would make a very good coach:

‘Jens has all the qualities to be a very good coach.’

I believe Wenger needs to go out this summer and look for a more experienced shot-stopper, as Szczesny still has a lot to learn and Fabianski remains unpredictable.

As for bringing in Lehmann or Seaman as a coach – why not.
