So far, so good

Its day 5 of the January transfer window and while we have yet to sign anyone, even on loan, it’s good to see the club getting rid of some of the deadwood.

Both Marouane Chamakh and Johan Djourou have sealed end-of-season loan deals to West Ham and Hannover respectively.

They haven’t perhaps made the permanent switches that we were hoping for, but hey, at least they are off our books for the next six months, thus freeing up some space in the wage budget to possibly make a move for that ‘exceptional’ player Arsene Wenger is always going on about.

All we need now is for other flops to follow in Chamakh’s and Djourou’s footsteps, the likes of Abou Diaby, regrettably, Andrey Arshavin, Sebastien Squillaci, Andre Santos, the list is endless.

But while I would love to see the abovementioned players leave, I would also like to see Wenger make some signings in the next 25 days.

In my opinion, I think we are in need of three players – a back-up goalkeeper, another left-back and, most importantly, a proper holding midfielder.

We need someone in our ranks to guard the goal when Wojciech Szczesny is unavailable. Vito Mannone did well at the start of the season, but he has yet to prove he can actually challenge the Pole for his starting position. There are a few decent goalkeepers out there, like Simon Mignolet and Asmir Begovic, who Wenger could bring in for a good price.

Although Kieran Gibbs is a guarantee in the side, if he picks up an injury we’re screwed. Andre Santos is crap, that’s why we need to acquire either acquire a promising left-back or a more experienced one – Luke Shaw or Leighton Baines will do.

Now I think the weak link in our side does not lie in our forward-line – we can score goals – I believe we are missing that man in the middle who breaks up play and gets stuck in. Mikel Arteta has been deployed in the holding midfield role and although he has done well in the position, dictating play and showcasing his passing range, he is simply NOT a robust defensive midfielder. If we manage to sign one of these, a top, top player in this position, I think our team would have more balance to it. Thing is, I don’t know who this player is.

As stated earlier in this piece, its still early days in January transfer window but so far, so good.

    Yes
    I agree with you Perry.

Arsenal fans should raise their “EXPECTATIONS” now that we have moved to the Emirates and remember the promise made to the fans when we moved there.
“We can now compete with “any” team in the world”
Open the books for all to see.
We can easily afford the likes of Falcao.
Don’t say we are dellusional instead expect less-no “DEMAND” more.
It’s the Fans money which is lining their pockets and It’s the idiots who agree with them and call us dreamers.

    • Perry gould says:

I agree, those fans are small minded like the Arsenal board.
We are one of the riches clubs,we pay one of the most expensive season tickets,we have one of the biggest and best stadiums, we have billionare dirctors,we are situation in London where fans spend a lot more money on merchandise.-NO Excuses for the Arsenal board to spend £70 million on the like of Falcao when Real Madrid who are smaller can compete more.
You owe the Fans. We are not dreamers- We EXPECT more and rightly so.

  • Perry gould says:

    Agreed

  • Tasos says:

You can “expect” to be disappointed then.

Truth is, I wish Arsenal could bring such players to the club but the reality is we can’t afford them.

Good luck with your demands anyway.

Diaby is still a great player though his career has been hit with injury but he’s still a great player. i cannot imagine you calling Gibbs a regular. Gibbs has been our defence weakest link this season. Baines will surely bring stability and Gibbs will have to understudy him.

    • Perry gould says:

      Yes
I agree with the Gibbs part being the weakest link.
It’s because he was and Arsenal youth and Wenger didn’t buy him as a ready trained defender.

Wenger doesn’t coach his defenders so if they don’t know before they played for the Arsenal first team then they will never know under his coaching!
I belive a good 40% of goals conceded is becuse of Gibbs bad defending?

Promise and fail is mr.wenger’s status…do not expect any good buy dis january.mayb he is looking for anoda free deadwood to cm in,so dat he won’t spend his money.

  • Musad says:

Mr Wenger needs to understand that re-structuring & strenghtening a team can be done at any time not only in the summer, any player bought now will surely work it out to success.£70m is said to be for signing players, then splash it out on CF,DM & CF.

  • FCArsenal says:

    “a proper holding midfielder.”

Surprised by this, I think Arteta, Wilshere, Coquelin and even Rosicky are competat in this position.

    • Perry gould says:

It’s becuase he cannot coach defending as mentioned above regarding Gibbs.
He has to purchase a ready made defender!

He won titles on the back of ready made defenders!

His design of the passing technical game is second to none-even better than barcelona!
And his purchasing regarding passing players is good.
But his ability to coach defending in winning the ball back like barcelona is a vast distant behind.
He cannot convert a player to a defender because of his bad defensive coaching skills. And he will not listen to his coaching staff for help?

  • Perry gould says:

    Westham 2 – Manu 1 so far

    Come on Arsenal tomorrow

  • Mannix says:

I agree we need player like Falcao if not him, the club can afford to buy Christiano at the same price R.Madrid paid for him but we have one problem, the board and their fuckin cheap traditions 2nd problem the stubborn Wenger who wild rather lose RvP to their arch rival man u than pay him £160,000 a wk, now we’re on the verge of losing Walcott than giving him jst common 120k a week which Liverpool can add more to secure his signature 3rd problem is Wenger again, I believe this team can challenge any Barcelona of this world when they are at their best but they luck leadership in & off the pitch. Wenger is known for pampering his players to an extend they forget their commitment. and only play for fun. Arsenal is far better than man u bt what make man u look dangerous is they have a no nonsense manager who pay u to perform and need results every wk.

  • Perry gould says:

Would you adam and eve it!

Van Persie Goes to the toilet before coming on to take his speed drugs.
Then finaly comes out late from the tunnel to go on as a sub 20 min before time.
Then out runs a westham defender like he was on speed and scores(in more way than one)for ManU.

    West Ham 2 ManU 2.

HOPE THEY DRUG TEST HIM AND HIS PERSONAL DOCTOR?
