With the January transfer window opening on Tuesday, Arsenal have once again been linked with a move for Manchester United’s Nani.
The Daily Mirror suggests The Gunners will call in a ‘favour’ after selling Robin van Persie to United by agreeing to sell them the out-of-favour Portuguese winger next month.
Nani, who has only managed to make four starts in the Premier League so far this season, appears to be heading out of Old Trafford following his drop in the pecking order and reaching a contract stalemate at the club.
Arsene Wenger could easily afford Nani’s transfer fee, reportedly at around £12 million, after being told he has cash to splash, and could also offer what the Portugal international is looking for in wages, believed to be £90k-a-week.
But would it be a good move for Arsenal to push for?
Do we really need Nani?
To be honest, I don’t think so.
I understand Gervinho is off to the African Cup of Nations next month, Theo Walcott’s future remains uncertain and Andrey Arshavin is more than likely off as well. However, buying yet another winger is not a necessity. We have enough as it is.
Don’t get me wrong, Nani is a good player who possesses great skill, movement and Premier League experience. However, his temperament and attitude stinks, and their must be a reason why he is failing at United at present.
I just think splashing out on the 26-year-old would be a waste of money, and I just can’t see Wenger handing Nani a wage packet of £90k-a-week when he is reluctant to give Walcott an extra £10k.
Even if the abovementioned players do leave in January, we still have enough about us to cope in the wide positions. And as such, I believe Wenger should strengthen other areas of the team.

It is a long time now, since Arsenal won anything and I am starting to believe there are many inside Arsenal that likes it that way.

Yes, you can’t have too many quality players.
Taking Utd’s sloppy seconds is hardly something that a club of arsenal’s stature should be involving itself in.If Wenger wants to call in any “favours” then why not persuade Barcelona to loan us David Villa and possibly and keep the £12 million for something useful like a holding midfielder
If you look nani up on youtube he seems world class but he is so inconsistent its awful.I also think that 12 million seems to cheap for nani but i may be wrong and also there are believed to be clubs from Italy who want him such as Juve and teams such as PSG have been credited with interest. Overall it seems unlikely

I do not think we have a winger as good as Nani at Arsenal. Walcott is great there, but he has been disillusioned and has been handling that position halfheartedly since he set is sights on playing through the middle. The Ox is great but still a bit inexperienced.
Nani will be a great acquisition. But that should bear no consequence on our very urgent need for a powerful defensive midfielder and a proven marksman in the class of David Villa, Van Pussy, etc. I believe we also still need a left winger and a backup goal keeper. Five acquisitions, with a DM and a striker coming in first, ain’t too much for a club like Arsenal.
Arsenal Board, we desperately need you to act wisely this January.
If wenger can’t increase walcott wages, how can he afford nani’s wages ?
Well for me it is all about who we can sell or loan out. of those still at the club these 5 must lead the way for moves out – fabianski, squillaci, santos, arshavin, chamakh. even if we sold all 5 i would say it woyld have no effect on the first team as i could pick at least 2 players that in my opinion are better than them in their position. Then there is the 3 stooges denilson park and bendtner these guys are as good as gone and also in my opinion do not even need replacing. However the sale of these 8 players alone would mean that we could save a huge amount in wages and possibly recoup some funds on transfers. we could also promote one or two promising youngsters or at least give a few of them more opportunity. Imagine if we used just the money we received for that 8 along with their saved wages say over two years how we could improve the squad. for a top DM a Top Striker and a deputy left back are the primary concerns.
