Haven’t we heard this all before?

Well it’s something we hear every transfer window, and this winter one there is no exception – Arsene Wenger will only sign a player next month if is ‘exceptional’.

The board have told Wenger he has cash to splash in January, with a reported £30 million warchest awaiting the Frenchman.

However, in true Wenger style, Le Boss will only add to an already ‘good squad’ if he can find an ‘exceptional’ player to strengthen it.

Quoted in The Sun, the frugal Frenchman said:

‘We are in the market but only if we find players who will really strengthen us because we have a good squad. But if we find an exceptional player then we will take him.

‘We lacked fluidity in our attacks against Wigan and continuity in our attacking play but we won because of our will to win.

‘And, with the way things are now, I won’t turn my nose up at that.’

I can understand Wenger’s mentality when it comes to the transfer window – we don’t just want any player walking in to our club who will not add anything to the squad.

However, we all know who the exceptional players are out there. So when he comes out with statements like this, pretty much every six months when the transfer windows come around, it does get under my skin a little.

We have got a good squad, but it can be improved in certain areas. So hopefully he can find that exceptional player he’s looking for next month and not just say the same old thing to cover his ARSEnal.

Usual rubbish from a man suffering from delusions of grander. There are plenty if players within our budget to strengthen the team. Ba would better than chamach or gervinho diame would represent a better option than diaby. We have papered over the cracks with 3 prem wins on the trot but this team is one of the worst in wengers history. It comes to something when we are imploring theo to sign a new deal. Spend the cash or move on at the end of the season.

It not really the team that’s bad… It’s Wenger! He has fully embraced mediocrity, that’s why players are dictating to him what role they feel they Should play in the team. Can you imagine Ashley Young or Valencia telling Ferguson they want to play CF? Wenger is too rigid, always trying to get a different result while doing the same thing over and over(Madness) His obsession with Ramsey and Shitty tactics has cost Arsenal dearly, yet he never learns. Difference between Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger: Flexibility and Adaptability… Wenger has lost it, we should be shopping for competent replacement!

Transfer fees are correlated with higher wages so our wage structure acts as impediment against ‘big’ signings.

Arsenal will probably buy players in the 5-15 million region.

Jakey is right. Some of the players he mentioned are within Wenger’s budget. It’s all up to Wenger. Results are the best indicators and the final epl placing will decide his fate.

Exceptional players ARE available for very reasonable prices – as already mentioned. But what is Wenger’s idea of exceptional? If it is the same as all us Arsenal fans, then why do we end up with the Squillacis, Gervinhos and Santoses of the world?

  • Gs says:

Wenger has said the same thing before and each time they bought someone like gerv, squllaci or santos! The only exceptional player he bought was santi. He wont buy exceptional players everyone knows that and on than excuse he wont buy much at all and we’re tired of it. And i feel it’s mainly the board’s fault coz which crazy manager doesn’t buy quality when he’s given the money!

Stubborn , delusional , pig headed or just plain principled?. Whichever camp you prescribe to , you must admit Wenger has become a bit of a cliche with his predictable statements . “we will only buy if it’s a quality player” ranked chief among them. Another whopper he keeps serving us is “we mustn’t be complacent”. Can someone please make him stop saying it by explaining to him that only successful clubs can get complacent ,as they are accustom to winning things . I think Arsenal fans have shown a lot of “mental strength ” and ” team spirit” in the face of their club’s prolonged steady decline and we are ready for some change.

Ander Herrera,Gustavo Lopez,Demba Ba,Paulinho,Christian Eriksen,That African bloke from Montpellier,Younes Belhanda,Fernando Llorente, several other top class memebers of the Bilbao team and that is just from the top of my head.I tell you what we will sign zero of them and any other player and once again our season will be down the toilet when we suffer one or two cruel injuries like we always do because we overplay our players……

Seriously people! A two home game fan boycott would send a no nonsense message to all concerned! As it is, Arsenal tickets are among the most expensive and for what? I mean let’s face it…the football is not attractive anymore? I’d rather be holding my breath watching the game on Tv than put that much effort for nothing. Remedy for stomach ulcers I tell you!

He is afraid to spend money because spending money means he will need to produce results. There always been funds but this rotten dictator does not spend to deflect attention from his inability to win anything. He is taking away 7 million a year for producing nothing yet talks about economics.

  • Leon says:

We have a good squad – sorry must have been out when that happened because all I see is a a few good players and the rest of the team made up of journeymen and mercenaries on huge salaries. The Arsenal squad is average and nothing more..
