Curtains for Wenger at the end of the season? [have your say]

Before the West Brom game last weekend, I said if we failed to bag all three points Arsene Wenger should seriously consider handing in his resignation. Thankfully, for Wenger and us (the fans), we won the game – even if it was through two penalties – and, as a result, it took some pressure off the Frenchman’s shoulders. We were happy and many thought after the victory we turned a corner. But it seemed we were all wrong.

Arguably, last night was one of the grimmest nights to date to be an Arsenal fan. We got thrown out of the Capital One Cup – a trophy which was undoubtedly acquirable – by League Two’s Bradford City…Bradford City!!!

Despite producing nearly 30 attempts on goal and playing just over 120 minutes, Arsenal could only manage a 1-1 draw against the lower league side and were eventually beaten on pens (3-2) by a team worth £7,500!

Following their latest shock defeat, many Arsenal fans have called for Wenger’s head, asking for either the board to get rid of Le Boss or for the Frenchman to do the honourable act and leave the club on his on accord.

Intrigued to know what fans out there thought about the defeat, I immediately turned on talkSPORT and listened to the ‘Sports Bar Show’ with Jason Cundy and although the former Chelsea man thinks Wenger’s time at the club is coming to an end, he doesn’t believe he should this instance. And I’m inclined to agree with him. There is no point of him being sacked or walking away from the club, not until at least until the end of the season.

Needless to say this is Wenger’s darkest time at Arsenal FC since his arrival in 1996. He finds his side 15 points – after just 16 games – behind Premier League leaders Manchester United, knocked out of the Capital One Cup – a trophy he should’ve been contending for in the final – and faces the prospect of playing a really strong team in the next phase of the Champions League. Our only salvation this season is to finish in the top four (again) and try to win the FA Cup.

This winter transfer window will prove to be a very significant one in Wenger’s reign and if he doesn’t utilize it wisely, it could, could be curtains for the wiley old Frenchman come the summer.

I am sure a lot of the true supporters would love to see him sacked, but he will still be there come next season when we can endure another horrific season. But I think somehow we may not get into the Champions League next season as we are leaking goals like a tap, and then what players we do have will leave. Perhaps then Wenger may get the bullet, but I still somehow doubt it!!!

what you expect when sales your best player every season.you cant build a good team on that principle. change of manager maybe the answer but what about the board which authorise the sale of our best.change from top to bottom is answer dont hide the fact.mm

I’ve always always championed Wenger and have never agreed with anyone who says that he should be sacked/ leave the club. But there seems to be something wrong at the moment that needs fixing. For years I’ve thought that Wenger has been one of the main attractions for players coming to us but I’m not so sure now.
I still would be very strongly against him going before the end of the season. But getting someone in and letting him take another role (either within the club or not) would now seem to me to be the best option.
He still has the Jan transfer market to put things right and it’s time we actually saw the club spend some of the money that we’re constantly being told we have available.
Tuesday night was the lowest the team has made me feel in my 22 years of supporting them. Usually when we lose games we should’ve won I can just shrug it off, but tuesday was different. Too many of the team looking like they didn’t want to be there and being outplayed by a team that would cost literally a fraction of what our players are supposedly worth. It wasn’t acceptable!
Role on Monday and our anhilation of Reading 9-0 (or maybe we’ll be 5-0 at half time, who knows???)

The transfer market will not make a big difference. I think Gazidis and the board have been exposed by the complete remaking of Old Trafford in the past what 8 years, sectio by section. Yet they pay the wages needed to keep top players. You do not sell the players we had for 20 plus million and replace them with folks that cost half as much, period. There is a reason they cost less, they are not as good.Theo will probably be off to ManU and they will pay him at least a 100, it must be galling for him to see Poldolskis, Arshavin among others making so much more then he, offered more then he was. Then you can count who will be next..Wilshire, Gibbs, and Alex i a few years if he develops. The wage structure is antiquated. When Fair Play comes in the big spenders will find ways around that too. Llorente is not comoing, no one that woul command more, and have a chance to pay for trophies will.Gazidis and Kroenke nee to go, the Gunners are becomeing the Rams, the Nuggets..permanent mid table teams in the states

  • Peter Gardiner says:

very sad times at Arsenal. Never thought that I would say this but yes time for Arsene to step up into the office. He loves Arsenal. Bring in Guardiolo who loves us and the 2 can work together in harmony and again produce an Arsenal that we love.Release some funds and please Arsene use them, not in future players but in ready made, we need them now! Also heeps of dead wood, we all know who they are! Give Theo a wage boost, he”s frustrating but deserves more.
