‘When a club like Barcelona want you, you can’t say no’

Well it’s something he was always going to say after leaving Arsenal this summer – the move to Barcelona was just too good to turn down for Alex Song.

As we all know the Cameroon midfielder departed for the Nou Camp last month in a deal reportedly worth £15 million after seven years at Arsenal.

The likes of Marc Overmars, Thierry Henry, Alexander Hleb, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Emmanuel Petit and Cesc Fabregas have all left Arsenal to join the Catalan club over the years, and Song insists it was ‘a once in a life time’ opportunity he had to take.

The 25-year-old was quoted in The Sun saying:

‘It was in July. Barca spoke with Arsenal and Arsene Wenger came to tell me.

‘It was hard to convince him and also say goodbye because he really helped me and my family when I arrived at Arsenal at 17 years old.’

He added:

‘When a club like Barcelona want you, you can’t say no.

‘A chance like this only happens once in life and you must take it.’

Reports suggested Arsenal grew tired of Song’s attitude towards training and his behaviour at times was unprofessional – this is why the Frenchman decided to sell him to Barca.

However, Song’s next comments suggest he just became annoyed about not winning trophies at the north London club, and is more determined than ever:

‘I’m hungry. I’ve never won anything and I have come here to play many games and win it all.’

To be honest, I’m glad we sold him as he grew arrogant and thought he was the main man at Arsenal, which he wasn’t.

Besides, we’re doing fine without him anyway.
