I don’t think he does Wenger…

Well the following claim from Arsene Wenger this morning may leave you a little bemused.

The Frenchman suggested that Johan Djourou still has a future at Arsenal.

The Swiss centre-back has dropped down the pecking order at The Emirates and has not started a Premier League game for The Gunners since April and was reportedly wanted by Napoli in the summer.

The emergence and impressive displays from Laurent ‘The Boss’ Koscielny and last summer’s deadline day signing Per Mertesacker has certainly not helped Djourou’s cause.

But Wenger says the 25-year-old still has a future at the club, which is a bit bamboozling to say the very least:

Le Boss was quoted in The Sun this morning saying:

‘I didn’t let Djourou leave as I love him as a player, and he loves the club.’

Credit to Djourou for staying at the club, as he could have easily left. But it wasn’t a very wise decision from the Switzerland international.

If anything his future at Arsenal looks very bleak. He will make the odd appearance he and there this season, but as long as TV5, ‘Kos the Boss’ and ‘The Great White Oak’ (that’s Per for anyone who isn’t familiar with this), remain at the club and are fit to play, Djourou will more than certainly be warming the bench this season and seasons to come.

You forgot about one thing, we’re the Arsenal and injuries are a way of life. There will be game time for Djourou, be it at CB or RB and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him tried out in midfield from time to time. If he’s happy as 4th choice, we’d be stupid to get rid of him imo as he’s substantially better than any other 4th choice CBs.

Silly post…how many other teams have a full international as a 4th choice CH? Go back 15 months and Djourou was being touted as better than Kolscielny…maybe even by this blogger who knows?

  • silentstan says:

if he remains at the club and is 4th CB then he DOES have a future doesnt he? how often does 4th choice play? – he is back up. should we only have 3 cb? of course not. so all in all fucking silly post

If you’ve got nothing to write about take the day off and spare us. Else broaden your thought process or you will find simple things ‘bit bamboozling to say the very least’.

The big RVP merchandise throw away day

The man has obviously no respect for us so why should we have any for him.No gooner surely still wears his shirt or drinks from his cup or wears his scarf or waves his flag or whatever you bought to support his one great year for us,so why not on that fatefull day he returns to our club playing against us dont you just throw it onto the pitch before the Kick off so he actually realises how he has left us feeling.AFC has to know how this unbelievable event has affected the fans. This transfer cant just be brushed under the carpet…….can it.

Thinking about it no cups or any other hard mechandise that maybe dangerous just the scarves and shirt and caps etc.I would not like to see any damage done. Its just a thought, what do you think.

Djourou is one good performance away from being back in the mix.

What I mean by that is if someone gets injured and Djourou gets a shot, then as long as he plays well, all the fans will instantly accept him back. Some will even prefer him to Per because he’s more mobile and better on the ball. Look at how excited we all are over Diaby (including myself).

But what really matters for Djourou is not what we think. Its how Wenger rates him.

  • Asif says:

Where would you find a better CB than Djourou who is happy to sit on the bench as 4th choice and still loves the club? We have three great CBs and I don’t think we need another to challenge them which can lead to Koscielny looking elsewhere. Koscielny was still no in the starting XI when he returned against Liverpool. There in enough competition for that place and Djourou is not bad as 4th choice.

  • Gooner77 says:

Could be our next defensive midfielder??

  • Zgunner says:

99% of Djourou’s errors on the pitch were when he played in RB position.

He is excellent in the CB position… and partnered well with Kosceilny.

Don’t you have anything positive to say about your own players?
Ever hear of constructive criticism? And then many fans wonder why players’ confidence gets affected. He’s 25.. and he is a strong defensive player with not too bad footwork.

He will prove you wrong… remember what was said bout SONG at some point?

    Some fans… I swear.

  • Sid Delve says:

Djourou is better than Bobby Moore, Franco Baresi, Franz Beckenbauer, Tony Adams and Marcel Desailly combined. Awesome Centre Half. We are lucky to have a defender of his stature who loves the club. Anyone who says otherwise does not know what he’s talking about.
