Well it’s finally over.

After weeks and weeks of speculation, Robin van Persie has decided to call time on his Arsenal career and is set to leave the north London club before the new Premier League season commences this Saturday.

The Gunners have agreed to sell the 29-year-old, who only has one-year left to run on his existing contract at The Emirates, to Manchester United for a reported £22 million.

The Holland international will reportedly travel to Manchester tomorrow in order to agree personal terms and undergo a medical ahead of his proposed move to Old Trafford.

Firstly, let me begin by saying that I am one Arsenal fan who is glad to see the back of him, especially after he released a statement in which he claimed that he will not be signing a new deal at Arsenal.

But selling him to one of our greatest rivals is borderline stupid in my opinion.

Still, in hindsight, £24 million for a 29-year-old, who has one year remaining on his current deal, is a great piece of business by our club – it’s just a shame he wasn’t sold abroad.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see what effect this will have on our squad and our title hopes this season.

fuking ungrateful inbreds i hope this is the last of the me me players at our glorious club.
    COME ON U GOONERS!!!

I’m most probably d happiest gunner around now cos we r no more gonna be experoencing those little heart attack everytime he gets roughly tackled. One good season out of 7/8 is not something to miss. Mark my word, he is not going to ever have any season as good as he had with us last season, he wouldn’t even have a repeat of it were he to remain with us. Cool business. COYG.

He’s not sold yet. Maybe Bayern will come in late?

Either way I’m glad he’s gone. We played much better without him Sunday, and I think we’ll be a better team with him gone.

Given that Man Utd won nothing last season, what if they win nothing next season too? I can see him really regretting this summer.

His hero was Bergkamp. Dennis wouldn’t have him lace his boots after this.

  • Reece says:

Very disappointed by the intent shown by us here. In two years we sell our best lb to rivals, our best attacking mid to rivals, and now our best player to our rival. All this shows the lack of ambition by arsenal at the moment. All these transfers not only weaken our team but strengthen others. Disappointed by this transfer. It’s almost conceding defeat and settling before the season has already started.

Actually the seeds of his decision were sown ,imho, after Feb left. The gunners could not
challenge. With Wenger waiting for ffp and his kids to flourish it was inevitable.
Now the fm better make sure the gunners are better off without him similar to the impact Eduardo had until he was deliberately injured.
He better make sure the gunners can seriously challenge for the epl otherwise ffp or no ffp, fans will be sick and tired.

  • Wolfgang says:

Fully agree with Reece. According to opta stats,RVP and the ugly Brit bulldog will form the deadliest partnership. This will strike fear into the epl.
Football is an unpredictable game.Analysts were predicting the demise of the gunners when Henry left.Well the gunners almost won the epl in 2008 until Eduardo was cruelly and deliberately injured.
I am hoping his deprture will have a galvanising effect on the other players who must step up.Tactically Wenger must be innovative and be prepared to embrace anti soccer when his defence is decimated.
Btw he must strengthen the md defensive part. Otherwise if the goals flow, the defence will
concede goals out of nothing. No more repeats of letting slip two or even four goal slips.
We know ffp is round the corner.Sponsorship deals are going to be up for renewal. If the gunners start winning games and trophies, they will set the terms. If not,get set for more players particularly Wilshire,Verminator, etc to go.By then the gunners could be in serious trouble.Similarly for the red faced. He has no divine right to win trophies.

Ask yourself this question, What would the papers be saying if Wenger had paid a 24 million transfer fee + 10 million signing on fee + 2000000 per wk wages for a 29 yr old with one year left on his contract and a history of injuries as long a your arm

    = for a 29 yr old crock

i just knew this was coming. I am now officially a neutral. I am tired of giving 100% support to the club i have grown to love. im tired of having hope only for it to be taken in a matter of minutes. I am taking down every trace of arsenal in my house as of this moment i am for myself. Im tired of getting into arguments with rival supporters and trying to lift the name of the club which i loved more than myself. having hope as an arsenal supporter is like being a lego you get built just to be broken apart. Thats how i feel right now. Podolski and giroud will never compare to rvp and guess what? Wallcott is gona leave and song. 1 step forward 10 backwards. The club name should be changed to assholes because thats how they make us supporter feel.

  • IHAVEAGUN says:

Well now that it’s over lets get rid of actual dead weight like B52,Squillaci,etc.etc

  • John Bramley says:

To be honest, we got one good season out of eight from RVP and £24 Million for a 29 yr old is good business. Not happy that it is a premier league club and a rival. That said, no player is bigger than the club and I am so pleased the saga is over and we can look at the players that want to wear the shirt rather than worrying about those that do not.

Role on the closing of the transfer window and the focus return to the playing 😉
