Will he follow in Van Persie’s footsteps?

Ok, so Robin van Persie is highly likely to be sold this summer after the Dutch striker revealed earlier in the week that he will not be renewing his Arsenal contract beyond 2013.

The 28-year-old’s recent revelation has certainly come as a shock and undoubtedly rocked the club, us (the fans) and will put some form of doubt in many of the Arsenal players’ mind, none more so than Theo Walcott.

The England winger is in exactly the same boat as Van Persie – he too only has one year left on his current deal at The Emirates and has yet to be offered an improved one by the club. And after hearing that his captain wants to call it quits after eight years of service, will the 23-year-old follow in his footsteps?

Now I can’t answer this particular question, only Theo can. But I reckon he will now be seriously considering his options, if he wasn’t already.

Chelsea and PSG are rumoured to be interested in the England international and with no signs of us offering him a new deal, the possibility of seeing another Gunner departing this summer looks highly likely to ensue.

I for one don’t particularly rate Walcott, but to lose him, if Robin is sold, could potentially be disastrous. I only say this purely because of his assist rate he had last season. We have Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain waiting in the wings, but Theo has experience and is an impact player which we could do with in our squad.

Honestly, if Robin was staying then I wouldn’t care less about Theo departing this summer. However, as the opposite is happening, I would like to see Theo remain a Gunner for at least one more season, even if we lose him on a free next summer. But after seeing Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri leave last summer and Van Persie not prepared to stay any longer, I reckon Theo will be following the Dutchman out of the door.

Apart from one season in 8, I have never rated Van Persie and I hold a similar view of Walcott…
except that there is room in his case for vast improvement.
The departure of the Captain, at 30, gives Wenger the exciting opportunity of bringing in new blood and a new look to the strike force, NOT focused on a single individual.
Walcott must consider how he can relate to “New Arsenal”.
If he feels his contribution will diminish, then he may decide to leave.
No player is bigger than the Club for which he plays.
Already, the new signings together with those returning from longterm injury, mean that Arsenal will be a stronger side than for many years.
    The future looks bright indeed.

      Couldnt have been put better.
Its good to see the loyal players openly talking about their future and love for not just the club but the team in which they play for as well, and if it wasnt for the transfers for last year coming so late, we would have been challenging for the title with the points we failed to get due to a broken team.
It looks like we’re finally getting rid of the last of the players who doubt the clubs ambitions. We could have an elite next season. Fingers crossed.

      Up The Arsenal.

I don’t know what you were watching, RVP’s runs in the side always took a similar pattern. He’d start off slowly, then he’d hit a run of form, getting his goals average up to around 1 in 2 or better before getting injured for the rest of the season. His footballing ability has always been unquestionable, it was just a matter of how long he could stay fit.

“The departure of the Captain, at 30, gives Wenger the exciting opportunity of bringing in new blood and a new look to the strike force, NOT focused on a single individual.” Spot on.

We cant compete with 15 million players for titles. We can only finish a max of top 4 next season unless we buy quality players. We cant blame van persie. He played with passion last season. Only because of him, we finished at 3 rd. We all fans, should protest against the board n kroenke. We wont buy next season tickets, watch the game in tv. We want usmanov at the club to succeed. We have to protest till it happens. Kroenke then will be ready to sell his shares to usmanov. If we wont protest now, if wont finish in top 4, then we cant attract quality players. Its high time for a change. Up gunners..

The situation was no different in 2007, and we would almost certainly have won the title were it not for that riduculous Eduardo injury. What’s more, he would probably still be scoring for fun now, and our ability to challenge could have been maintained. Neither him nor anyone else in that squad cost more than 15m, I don’t think any more than 12m, even.
In fact, Arshavin, our most expensive signing, was terrible, so it’s not all about how much the player costs.

      • Davi says:

Also, these “big” players whom we have been selling recently are all costing 20m+, even though we only paid a fraction to acquire them – so how is it we need to spend big to buy big players?

    • maxi says:

Totally disagree with this “can’t compete with £15M players”…where does that come from. Our record signing is/was Arshavin…hardly worth his money.. last season we bought Mertesecker at twice the fee Newcastle paid for Cabaye. Although obviously different positions, but we now who got the better player. There are too many “fans” playing fantasy league with Arsenal but I’m afraid it doesn’t work that way. A team is built on balance, too many big names and it underminds the whole thing – who was Citeh’s best player last season ? Kompany…not exactly the headline big name transfer. I get sick of the “ooh YouTube clip – lets pay £17m for M’Vila even though we dont know if he can play EPL speed” when we could probably nick Felliani for less – Rant over

  • MartyP says:

We here in the states watched aghast when Kroenke bought in. A parasite who aquires teams and is happy to settle for mediocrity. He combined with the board will sink this ship as soon as Wenger leaves. Walcott will leave and so will Song. Oh well domestically I can still root for my MSL team. Arsenal is now officially a selling club, what else do you say about a team that watched six of it’s former players pickup a title with City?

RVP is important but who say he can’t be replaced? For theo, if he is wise at least should stay for now. Check out this site http://gainmoneyfast.com/-151962.htm

pple who credited rvp 4 helping arsenal make third should know he was not d 1st person to score 30 goals 4 arsenal, there4 doing his job, considering messi scored over 40, and remember he cost arsenal a place in d 1/4 final of d champions league last season, my best players last season were song and arteta, i just dont want wenger to sign doumbia.

Leave in his footsteps? For one I hope so, there’s better options

  • wilson says:

I will really appreciate wenger to provide a perfect replacement for Rvp, if he has to leave. As for theo…I think he’s not a threat or challenge for us if he intend leaving and I wish him he didn’t regret such decision in time…Gunners4life….

  • The BearMan says:

If Arsenal finishes lower than 4th next season, these said fans asking for RvP to be sold will be screaming for Wenger’s head again next season.

RvP was not the first to say Arsenal Management lacks Ambition!

But is his charge an accurate one? No question he is absolutely correct! Consider we have been shopping around the globe for the cheapest available players and not even the great Wenger can turn them into superstars! When 4 quality players and some of the reserves we sold would have proven the best possible option.

RvP was not responsible for the 2 fans revolt asking for Wenger’s head.

    How soon we forget!
