Should Arsenal swap RVP for Dzeko?

Ray Parlour reckons if Arsenal are going to sell Robin van Persie to Manchester City then they should ask for Edin Dzeko as a ready-made replacement for the Dutch striker.

But would this be a worthwhile deal for the Gunners to consider pursuing?

Well if recent reports are to be believed then it seems the Dutchman has targeted Manchester as his next destination after the 28-year-old was spotted house hunting in Cheshire.

Roberto Mancini is known to be a keen admirer of the Holland international but Arsenal will be reluctant to sell their captain to a Premier League rival.

But should Van Persie move to The Etihad Stadium then Parlour, who insists the club should get rid of RVP ASAP, believes they should ask for Dzeko to be apart of the deal.

The former Gunner was quoted on talkSPORT.com saying:

‘I don’t know what Arsenal will look at, but if [Van Persie] does want to go to Manchester City then maybe they could look at a swap deal with someone like Dzeko and bring him in.

‘His wages might be a problem. I don’t know what kind of wages Dzeko is on at Manchester City and Arsenal have always had that pay structure that they want to keep to and maybe they have to change that.

‘Times are moving on and if you want the best players they go for the best money.’

To be honest, if Robin is looking to go to City then I think we should try and get one of their players as part of the deal. Should that player be Dzeko though? I don’t think so. We already have a number of strikers at the club and it would be unwise, in my opinion, to ask for the Bosnian in place of the Dutchman.

If I were allowed to pick a player from the City squad, who of course is out-of-favour and doesn’t really get a look in, then I would ask for Nigel De Jong, Micah Richards or Vladimir Weiss as part of the Van Persie deal.

RVP for Dzeko?

Ok tis d most probable replcement is dzeko he’s quick, agile and has got an eye 4 a goal.Regardin rvp n dzeko, dzeko is young a nice optiön n i fancy him

Dont mind if we get him but I agree I wouldnt choose Dzeko. We have Giroud to be our target now and Dzeko wld not be a huge success as his best thing is aerial abilities and we dont play that game (thats why Chamak and bendtner wont make it with us but may elsewhere)… Of those who seem for sale I would like any of the following as part of the deal: Tevez, De Jong, Richards or A. Jonson. (Weiss not really as lightweightf for EPL plus have many for similar style – Ox, Ryo, Theo…) – Tevez wld be my first pick tho as altho a prick he is a fighter and winner and will give a huge lift and sign of ambition….

      Dzeko > Giroud.

      • Nick TG says:

Fine but now we bought Giroud so doesnt make sense going and getting a slightly better version…lets get different option. Its like buying LLoris doesnt make sense to me when we have Szezers. true lloris may still be slightly better for me but ours is already good and will become great…

would love micah richards.british,young-ish,fast and versatile,as he can play cb and probs cdm and lb aswel.have been saying to everyone I can,we need good cover at rb.sagna has broke his leg twice and is 28 or 29.would have welcomed bosingwa on a free, but if rvp goes, richards would be better, and could mentor jenkinson, who I think is a great prospect (again, very versatile),but isn’t good enough for top level, yet.

im also a fan of de jong, and he is proven in epl.we could then move song up the pitch a bit more,as he looks promising their.and we would ne covered accross midfield, other than an advanced playmaker.I would love affelay,if only £6mil,but they’re are probably other better options.

dzeko is very under rated, but i think too similar to giroud.

can’t believe we didn’t snap up kalou.free.proven at highest level.agreed to £45,000 per week at new club.and we apparently offered £6mil 6months ago! think we should defo snap up hoilett.has to be worth £10-15 mil,is,very young, and very talented.

how is wenger missing on these great free transfer options?all of them would fit into our team, are at a similar level, are proven and could hit the ground running.also,I would have rathered bosingwa, kalou, hoilett, and even flamini (very versatile, can play,in all midfeild and defensive positions well),over the pending ‘rough diamond’ we will undoubtably get.

Absolutely! I confident it would be an excellent trade for Gunners. If were lucky we might also have same extra cash to spend on Ganso. I have full respect for RvP’s comment on the way forward for the team, however you cannot have any rotten eggs in your basket so it is better to offload and bring in some positive energy without loss of quality. Arsenal will get a younger, less injury prone, less of a whine-ass sharp shooter. The fact that he is Bosnian is beneficial as he will not be worn down during summer time while playing for the national team. I don’t see RvP as a natural leader in the team. Dzeko might not be the best solution to cover that aspect but it is time for some of the others to step forward and lead the team.

Dzeko is at least as clinical as RvP, if he were to be given the same amount of minutes on the pitch I am certain that he would outperform the dutchman. So bring him on!!! Anyone who would take a bet on who would score the most goals in the coming season. I think it is an easy treat.

do dis buzness i luv dzeko.

    • benitoNST says:

Exactly. Anyone who watched him at Wolfsburg, loves him. Just cos Mancini plays him out of his position and as a sub, doesn’t mean, he is sheet. Quality.

  • Arran says:

This was a passing comment Parlour made yesterday when pressed on Talk Sport about what Arsenal should look to do with RVP… I cant believe its been picked up by so many sources. Will never happen, personally dont think he would be the right choice for us anyway and there is no way we could afford his wage…

  • Emmy says:

Dzeko is not a bad option,Wenger pls try and sign Adam Johnson he is waistn at city and they dont know wat they have

  • Tim says:

This ‘report’ that Robin van Persie was seen in Cheshire house hunting over the weekend, was covered by the Daily Star, need I say more ?… I actually saw Robin with his family in Hampstead on Saturday afternoon, strange how he can be in two places at the same time.

  • bright kaycee destus says:

    swap him

  • GoonerB says:

I wouldn’t swap for Dzeko as for me he is too similar to Giroud and with him and Podolski we have 2 players who can cover the number 9 role. i would look more for a number 10 type player who is creative in the area between the number 9 and the midfield but can also score goals. I would look to Jovetic for that so we need as much money as possible for RVP should he go and then buy Jovetic. I agree about Tevez being the best player that we could take from them as he can play the deeper strikers role but can’t see it happening for various reasons. One last word is if we are only looking at £20m or under I would rather keep RVP for his final year.
