‘Arsenal need to move on.

‘Robin Van Persie has got to go. You can’t keep him as club captain, you can’t keep him at all.

‘Move him on, get some money for him and then reinvest in the team.’

This is the view of former Gunner Stewart Robson on the summer transfer saga surrounding Robin van Persie.

Now to be fair, I believe Robson makes a good point. The club need to squash this issue sooner rather than later. We don’t want, nor do we need this to drag on and affect the start of our season.

Van Persie has made it clear that he will not be renewing his contract beyond next summer, so what is the point of keeping him at the club? Why not sell him for £20-25 million and reinvest it somewhere else in the team? Why play a risky game and potentially lose him on a free next summer? He simply can’t remain as captain of Arsenal, and it would be foolish of the club to keep a player who doesn’t want to stay. Get rid and move on!

Last season we encountered the same problem with Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri and because we were dillydallying about trying to keep them put when, let’s face it, we knew they were going, our squad were distracted and we did some last minute shopping, which ultimately hindered us in more ways than one.

We could do without the same thing occurring this summer, so I for one will echo Robson’s words – Arsenal need to move on and should get rid of RVP ASAP.

Stuart Robson is a joke never has a good word to say bout the arsenal

  • Snoopy says:

but we haven’t recieved a £20m or £25m bid we recieved a £10m or £12m bid from Man Utd and Juventus…would you and stweart Robson sell at that price too??

    • The Goon says:

We haven’t…yet! I just think it would be best for the club to get rid of him sooner rather than later

  • davi says:

yes but there are other issues. If a foreign club, say Juve, offered something like what he was worth, I’d say we should accept and let him go, but unless United or City are willing to pay well over the odds, I wouldn’t sell him to one of them. At some point we have to say enough is enough, and stop allowing our best players to join our rivals. It sends a message

    • The Goon says:

But what if Juve don’t want to buy him and we receive £20-25 million for him, would you sell him then, or lose him on a free? I know we shouldn’t sell to our rivals and hopeful we don’t but its best to see these players leave for the harmony of the squad

      • Stuart says:

I would sell him to anyone, the guy has had 1 good season in 8 for us in a system built to work around him. He wont get that anywhere else and I doubt he will be fit for a full season!

  • Victor adeyemi says:

Is Robson a friend or foe of arsenal? This bald headed man never has anything positive to say about arsenal even while commentating. He said that Walcott is an athlete In football boots despite being the second highest scorer for the club and also producing several assists. Let the man say nothing as silence may be the only virtue for him. Yes, Rvp Squilled rubbish in his website but that does not make him the worst man on earth as it is being demonstrated in the practice sessions now.

I think wenger always make the mistake of trying to force players to stay, i support that we should allow rvp to go. If we force him to stay, we would not get the best out of him. So please wenger should stop wasting his time and allow him to go and forget unnecessary distraction

  • idris says:

Did rooney not do d samething, I didn’t hear anyone crucifying him. We shud keep him 4 his last year on his contract n let him go 4 free. With possible Carzola n sahin captures along with RVP a much needed Trophy is not far off, Keep it Goonerish!in between Stewart robson is back stabbin twat!

  • Solomon says:

Mind you Idris, Rooney was not in the last year of his contract and he did not handled the situation in the manner that RVP did. Irrespective of how great he was last season, i dont think any football player has the right to tell us that he does not share our vision while he’s still on our wage list. RVP will not command the respect that he had last season, so is better for the manager to sell him. #15-20 is a good value. At least same RVP has seen what we have endured of him. Director of sports at Man. City said that he will not offer a salary in the region of #200k per week to an “injury prone player” but the same injury proned player who had a great season now turn back to say that he does not share our vision. That is an insult. He must just leave.

  • John says:

Its diffcult if Utd are offerng 15M then fuck them I hold him to is contract.

Let him go in a year you need to weight up cost of not being in teh CL.

  • cin says:

    What stupidity ?

    Arsenal will reinvest money????????

Arsenal will never do. Please pray RVP to stay.

  • Dave says:

If teams interested in him think RVP is injury prone and won’t to pay £20m-£25m, then that should send a signal to him that those clubs would treat him like Adebayor,Bellamy etc. If things don’t go well…he better change his mind and sign an extension but not as arsenal captain
