Are we ever going to get rid of him?

You’ll be forgiven for thinking this article was about Nicklas Bendtner, but it’s in fact about Marouane Chamakh.

Last week, reports claimed Turkish outfit Besiktas were eyeing up the Moroccan striker, as a possible move away from Arsenal looks likely this summer for the 28-year-old.

Sadly for Arsenal fans though, the Besiktas manager Samet Aybaba recently announced that he is not interested in signing Chamakh.

Speaking to the local press, Aybaba was asked about potential transfer activity this summer:

‘We needed a defender like Escude and I think our defence will be stronger with him.

‘We’re not attempting to sign Marouane Chamakh.’

So it appears that unless another club decide to come in for him, we will be stuck with Chamakh at least up until January.

Chamakh has been vocal lately, stating he will stay and fight for his place at Arsenal, but ONLY if Robin van Persie leaves:

‘Yes (I will benefit if van Persie leaves).

‘If I am staying here with Arsenal I will do my best for the team and give the maximum.’

He added:

‘Last season was difficult. We were playing with just one striker. There was not a lot I could do.’

I have a feeling Chamakh will stay for another season. In terms of him getting games will depend entirely on how our new strike-force gel together.

But in my heart of hearts I don’t think Chamakh has a future at the club, as should be sold.

don’t care if he goes or stays were better of with bendtner thou

His performances in pre-season so far have done nothing to improve his case.

  • Actual Arsenal fan says:

    He played well today…

agree with this chamakh had some great bits of play laying the ball off and holding it up well

@AA and Dave – people forgot how much (and how well) Chamakh did during his debut months when rvp was on his annual visit to the treatment table. Had rvp not recovered, I won’t be surprised if Chamakh became a crowd favourite.

Chamakh will never depart Arsenal on his own because of his over bloated wages unless he is foced out. If you ask me, I think he will fight in vain for a shirt because his quality has diminished completely. Any club wanting to buy him at any price should be accepted so we can save his wages for a more productive player.

I dont know but if RVP goes,Arsenal’s finishing could be suspect. Yeah they have sigend two wc forwards. Henry and Pires were wc but they needed time.Hopefully the two new strikers need not much time otherwise according to the reports from the Beijing game there’s an awful lot of work to do.
As for RVP I would prefer the gunners take less cash and let him go to Italy. The other option is to let the contract run and see what happens from there. But I fear the board may let the club which offer more money to get him.
Make no mistake this will be a watershed season. If RVP goes and the gunners can’t challenge,Wenger shd be given no more time to prove his winning ways.Of course he could surprise by winning something. But time is of the essence.I am afarid the fans won’t accept another below par season.

i watched him played today and i think he wasn’t bad at all. but as he claimed, he really need playing time. probably a loan spell will bring back his lost ego and focus. another thing, his positioning as a no. 9 player is something to worry about. if AW would eventually keep him, then alot of work in that area should be attended to.

  • awes says:

I DID think this was about bendtner 😀

  • Kahacho says:

People seem to forget that Chamakh did well for us before RVP’s return. No he’s no RVP but certainly he’s a good squad player and if we’ve been patient with NB52 and Vela for all those years why not offer him the same?
