Why is this man flirting with Juventus?

Robin van Persie’s future at Arsenal remains unclear but the 28-year-old found time to label Juventus a ‘great team’.

Van Persie, who is currently away with Holland preparing for Euro 2012, has been linked with a number of top European club this summer as he has yet to pen down a new deal with the Gunners, with his current one set to expire next summer.

Arsenal had hoped to resolve contract issues with the Dutchman before the start of the European tournament, which starts this Friday. However, talks between the club and player have stalled.

But the in-demand striker was recently quoted in Tuttosport praising the Serie A champions, which may not please some of the Arsenal faithful.

Van Persie said:

‘Juventus are a great team. But I have agreed with Arsenal that I will not discuss my future.

‘All I can say is that it is my intention to have a great Euro 2012 and win it. I also want to continue playing in the Champions League.

‘I’ve never felt so strong and I just want to continue winning. At this point in time all I want to do is focus on the European Championship. There will then be time to address other matters.’

I for one don’t like to see our players praise or flirt with other teams, especially our best one whose future at our club remains undetermined.

In my opinion, I don’t think he will sign a new deal with us. Hopefully I’m wrong but leaving contract discussions for after the Euros is cutting it very thin and makes it look like he has doubts about the Gunners’ progress. And if he loves the club like he said he does then he would’ve signed already and put every Arsenal fans’ mind at rest.

I would rather Van Persie keep quiet until after the Euros rather than him praise potential suitors – it just doesn’t look good or professional in my view

If he was to leave us…WHY GO TO JUVENTUS? Confusing.

    • Abdul Azim says:

…..What an ….. @Why go to Juve, like hello…………… Juve have a more realistic chance of winning everything like they’ve done so in their past and are on their way to doing so yet again!
Besides why would he want to kid himself and stay at the arsernal?

      Forza Juve!

    • WC says:

You mean the team that has won the most scudetto titles, has won the CL, has gone to over half a dozen CL finals, pays their players 6 figure wages and just went the season unbeaten. Yeah why would he want to join them?

It is to get the best deal from Arsenal … or somewhere else ?

  • V says:

I dont think he is flirting with Juve. If I remeber correctly, he was asked several questions. he first responded that he wouldnt talk about his contract situation as an agreement he made with Arsenal. There was a follow up question about what he thought of Juve.

I am not sure I want him back. I do expect him to shut his mouth and play out his contract. After that I am fine with him walking to whatever team he wants. Chances are he will break down, sit on the bench and forever regret leaving. Let’s just hope the board wises up and gets a striker in this year to acclimate or next.

    • chris from Cambridge says:

Well that won’t happen. Kroenke will not let £25m or some such simply walk away next year. He didn’t with Nasri either. Either RVP signs another contract or he is sold this summer.

  • GunnerX says:

Perhaps RVP is unconvinced about our ambitions, what with our reluctance to strengthen our squad with the requisite level of quality.

It seems that AFC are happy to sell their best players every summer, and replace with cheaper alternatives.
Some are getting slightly fed up with being constantly fed dreams of tomorrow, maybe RVP feels something similar.

  • Larson says:

Why wouldn’t he say Juventus is a great team, they just had an invincible season. He doesn’t say he’s going there, it’s just a statment of fact: Juventus are a great team. You can’t go through a top flight season undefeated and not be.

    • MJB says:

      I totally agree!

I wish all these fans would stop having knee-jerk reactions to everything RVP says.
It was just a simple answer obviously being spun around to make it appear as something else.

      just get over it.

  • J says:

With the greatest of respect to juventus and all that they have achieved, a transfer to Turin would not be a step up in his career. Anybody saying as such is clearly clouded in their judgement.

If anything, in my opinion, a move to juve would be disastrous for rvp. A side no better than where he is, a league inferior, a club shrouded in match fixing allegations and a footballing culture that would dull, dampen and finally quell his attacking instincts.
Van Persia would be insane to even consider a move to juventus and I don’t believe for a minute that’s anywhere close to being at the forefront of his considerations.

As for the original question to tho article, the answer is simple…., he isn’t flirting with them. Nowhere has he stated that he would be interested in playing for them. The press are doing their usual alchemy of turning nothing into serving after serving of steaming stinking BS.
Rvp will stay if we convince him this is the club for his future. Its that simple.

The quotes came from tuttosport! The italian version of the sun. Nothing but lies on it. All the time!
Just last week they claimed he was shown around their stadium and training facility and met the chairman. Did you believe that too? Do you think that would happen while he’s under contract at Arsenal and the club wouldn’t react?

my opinion of van persie is he has given up on us after his only good season of 8 on the injury table. he has only been a goal machine this last year. He only finishes the good work of others that we constantly slate for their performances. does anyone remember chamakh when he arrived his scoring record was great. that was until van persie was injury free and he never saw playing time much after that. the problem i have is the situation which is a replica of last year. We have to offer these players new contract with 2 years left and get rid the following season if they haven’t signed. our mentality seems to be our biggest problem as we take a lead in games then hand the game back to the other side straight away. we have to learn to maintain pressure for the whole game. we always dominate until we lead. Time and time again we have thrown winning games away. That is not the main goalscorer’s place but it is the slippers place to keep his team fired up. van persie should leave and i’m sure we will have the rest of the team blossom more. on saying this van should stay as he is not prolific every year like say drogba

If he was to leave us he would rather leave as a hero so going to a juve would allow that just a thought. However, let us have another scenario a chat with arsene and Ivan after the season went something like this well Robin you can have 130k per week and a big signing on fee. Well arsene it’s like this I want to win things unless you bring in quality players i am off, robin leaves leaving Arsene and Ivan together. Arsene to Ivan he won’t leave we have poldolski in the bag we bring another few players in and with team we have got we can win things hew will sign after Euros. Robin on his way home decides he needs to make sure his employers take him seriously so thinks ahh what can i do to make them think I am serious and might make them bring in good players i know i will flirt and talk about the strengths of another team

  • Stuart says:

Maybe the question was something like “What do you think about Juventus?”

    Just a thought.

But he should go though. He has only played 1 full season and people want to give him a pay rise to come back from the Euros injured and unable to play at the start of next season then leave on a free. You must be off your nut!

  • voiceofturin says:

TO ALL ARSENAL FANS: Tuttosport is a Turin Based Newspaper which follows Juventus as its first team, this question was always going to be asked and Van Persie answered it politely.

Also would you guys refrain from insulting Juve as they are a greater team then Arsenal and thats a Fact.

As for the Transfer itself, its highly likely, Del Piero Has now retired and Juve are looking for a new number 10. Van persie would be a fool to let this down.

Lastly its upto ARSENAL to sort there fucking team and transfer tatics out Chelsea are the first team to win champions league in London and Spurs are getting stronger . Walk the fuck up boys..
