What Wenger will do with this man if he signs for Arsenal

|

Olivier Giroud – does the name ring a bell? If it hasn’t, it should. He’s been all over the sports pages in the past couple of days – this largely due to his Ligue 1 form from last season, form which led to the 25-year-old bagging 25 goals for French champions Montpellier.

Europe’s elite were put on high alert after his goal-scoring exploits. Many are rumoured to be chasing Giroud this summer, but Montpellier coach Rene Girard believes the French striker’s next destination is The Emirates.

Arsene Wenger is thought to be keen on bringing Giroud to Arsenal this summer, and it has been reported that he is a long-term admirer of the French forward.

It is understandable as to why Montpellier are reluctant to let go of their star striker, but Girard recently admitted that Giroud is likely to move to Arsenal, if they can agree a deal with the French champions.

Girard told French radio station RMC:

‘Arsenal are very interested and Giroud wants to play in England, if Arsene [Wenger] agrees with the president [Louis Nicollin], he will sign for them.’

Well I for one can’t wait for the transfer window to officially open.

Giroud has really been causing a ruckus in the football world recently, and I do hope we sign him.

He is currently with the French national squad in Poland and Ukraine, but the player is expected to make a decision on his future after the tournament like many others. The Gunners are so keen on Giroud that reports suggest the north London club are trying to get the striker to withdraw from the France squad to finalise a deal.

But if we do sign him, what will Wenger exactly do with him?

Well, in my honest opinion, I think he would be a starter, playing upfront.

Wenger seems to be in love with his current 4-3-3 formation, and if he sticks with this system next season, then I see Wenger playing Giroud as the lone front man. Giroud is a complete striker, a lone man, a player who may struggle to play in the wider positions of the attack.

I of course make this assumption with Robin van Persie’s Arsenal future still in doubt.

Giroud could well be a replacement for the undecided Dutchman this summer. So assuming RVP leaves our front-line would consist of Lukas Podolski, Oliver Giroud, Theo Walcott and/or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

If Van Persie stays then I think Giroud would be used more as a sub – unless maybe Wenger plays a front three of Podolski, Giroud and Van Persie. On paper, this looks lethal, whether or not we will see it remains undetermined.

What do you guys reckon Wenger will do with Giroud? Where will he play the French striker if he manages to sign him?

If any Arsenal player seems undecided about wether they should stay or go (RVP) then a replacement should come in to help them on their way. Sorry Robin, if you can’t make a simple decision ( or maybe you have)then, thanks for all the fish!
Giroud up front. Podo,Ox,Gerv and Theo alternating up front left and right. Simple.

U see i for one dont see robin staying but if he does stay den i dont tink signing olivier giroud n dumping him on bench is good instead let him be. Bt if he does come then we see wat arsene wil do. Gooners 4 lifeHello,

Since we’ve got such talented middielders with m,vila we could create a unvreakable midfield this is the squad i believe could challenge for the title.

    4-3-1-2

    Schezz
    Sagna—kosh—vernaleen–Gibbs
    ————— M’vila—————–
    Song———————–arteta
    ———–whilshere—————
    –rvp/giroud—–podolski

The reason i put whilshere behind the strikers is that he is a playmaker,a great dribbler like iniesta and before we put him defensive mid for reserves he played behind the striker and scored 13 goals in 18 games.

i think we can still play both RVP and Giroud…..4-4-1-1 comes to my mind immediately. but this can only happen if we get a proper box to box midfielder…say mvilla, one who is sound defensively and to be partnered by an Arteta orWilshere as the attacking mindef CM. then we have RVP in the hole n Giroud/Podolski upfront. walcott, chambo, gerv can play on either wing. what do u think…..we prettu much have a straigjt foward line up in the defensive dpt.

i think we need 4 defenders 2 strikers but Giroud can be sub with Podolski or podolski can be sub with giroud.

4-2-3-1 formation.giroud as the lone striker and rvp behind him dat is hopeful he neva leaves.wings:poldi and theo.mid:arteta and songinho

Really? What your saying is ‘we should play 4 strikers in the starting eleven’? I shudder to think how our already poor defence would get exposed if you were the manager!

  • obaro. says:

I think Giroud is a good signing.. Van Persie can play behind him or on the wings provided he doesn’t leaves plus it is an addition to the squad depth which is lacking in Arsenal.. Gunners 4 life.

  • Saga Sphinx says:

A change from our current formation will never occur unless 1 of 2 things happen. 1- We buy wide midfielders capable of defending to the standards required in the premier league. More emphasis will be put on defence in a wide midfield role as opposed to a winger role. Think of Ray Parlour and Freddy Ljungberg. 2- We either drop the creative midfielder roll (Arteta, Wilshire, Ramsay) and employ another defence minded central midfielder to sit next to song, leaving all creativity to our wide midfielders, who now have more workload from defensive duties. Which of our current wide midfielders fit this criteria? None! So a change in formation is more than likely a no go.
