Will Arsenal’s new man hit the ground running?

|

Summer signing Lukas Podolski has given Arsenal a boost even before the campaign is officially over.

Speaking on Arsenal.com, the 26-year-old German said:

‘I have joined to win titles and trophies – that is my target. I’m confident and I will do my very best to be successful with Arsenal.’

I truly believe in Podolski’s talent having followed his progress for the last six months or so and having seen him play a few games for Cologne, the former Bayern Munich striker looks like he will be able to adapt quickly to the English game, and will be a force to be reckoned with in my opinion.

However, Podolski knows the challenge of lifting the Premier League title will be a ‘difficult’ one, and is not expecting to turn up and bag trophies without a fight.

He added:

‘It won’t be easy as the Premier League is quite well balanced, certainly across the top six teams who are all very strong. It will be difficult.’

But he seems optimistic that we will be able to lift a trophy next season and I am personally a lot happier with him in the side than certain other players in our squad. I would like to still see a few other signings come into the side to strengthen a few key areas this summer. I just hope that the situation with Robin van Persie is resolved within the next two weeks because I would hate this situation to be hanging over us towards the start of the new campaign.

Arsenal above all need a clear head going into the 2012/2013 season so that we can bond as a team and have no huge setbacks like we did this season. Everything needs to be resolved quickly and efficiently.

Is Podolski the man to help us win the title? On his own, No. WE HAVE to strengthen our squad in defence and midfield and keep the likes of Van Persie and Theo Walcott in the side in order to accomplish this feat.

Let’s not forget, it is vital that Jack Wilshere returns to the squad. He will be travelling to Sweden soon to have a minor operation on his knee. However, it is thought it will not effect his return date. Jack will be a huge boost to the squad and to our midfield upon his return.

There are people who wonder how Podolski will adapt to the English game and in his interview, he stated:

‘They play fast in England, score lots of goals and there are tough battles. I enjoy this style of football, so from that point of view I think I will adapt fairly quickly. I’m a player who plays in a similar style.

The Premier League has very good stadiums, and stronger clubs as a whole, and I’m sure I’m going to be involved in some exciting matches.’

My ideal signings would be Yann M’Vila, who is thought to be making a decision on his future this weekend. I would also like to see a defender come in, someone along the lines of Jan Vertonghen, but it looks like he is set to join the Spuds.

I guess we all have to wait and see what happens in the next few weeks. Hopefully the media will stop making up RVP reports and he’ll sign a new four-year deal at the club and we will go on to win the double next year!!!

Podolski is our van persie insurance. if rvp leaves we have a replacement on board if he stays podolski will play on the left of a front 3. i think wenger is hoping to get mvila as our song insurance. I think wenger is hoping to get hoilett as our walcott insurance. If we end up with all 6 then he will look to offload 6 more players to bring the squad down to 25 then it will be a case of one out one in. i believe those 6 will be fabianski or mannone, squillaci, botelho, denilson, eastmond and park.
