Time to give this youngster a shot?

It’s been reported in the Daily Mirror that on loan Arsenal midfielder Henri Lansbury will seek showdown talks with Arsene Wenger before deciding whether to commit his future to the north London club or request a transfer in the upcoming transfer window.

The England Under-21 international has spent the current season out on loan at West Ham and will return to Arsenal after the play-offs, wary of what his future holds.

Despite being sent out on loan for the past four seasons, it is thought Arsenal want the 21-year-old to sign a new deal at the club. However, should he sign an extension to his existing deal, Lansbury would undoubtedly want to be apart of Wenger’s first-team plans rather than being loaned out for a fifth straight season.

If of course Wenger can’t assure him this then it is highly likely that Lansbury will look to depart the club he has been at since the age of nine, with Swansea, Norwich and newly promoted Reading ready to pounce.

So should we tie Lansbury down to a new deal and give him a shot in the side next season? I believe so.

He has the heart, determination and ability to succeed at Arsenal. The midfielder has only managed to score one goal and assist with four in 22 Championship appearances for West Ham this season, but his displays have been impressive to say the very least.

I don’t think he would start on a regular basis if he stay put, but Lansbury will definitely offer us more depth and competition in the midfield department. In addition, with Aaron Ramsey out-of-form and struggling to convince some of the Arsenal faithful with his performances this season, Lansbury would almost certainly give the young Welshman a run for his money and keep him on his toes.

Offer Henri a new deal and give him a shot Wenger!!!

What should Wenger do with Lansbury?

After his loan moves at Watford and Norwich and impressive performances for the England U-21’s, I thought he deserved a chance in the squad, but if he can’t get in the West Ham team regularly ahead of the likes of Gary O’Neil or Jack Collison (appreciate he’s not going to displace key players Mark Noble or Kevin Nolan), how’s he going to get regular football here?

Song, Arteta, Wilshere, Diaby, Rosicky, Ramsey, Diaby, Frimpong, Coquelin

Possibly add Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to that, as he could feature more in midfield if Podolski plays left wing, and perhaps Yann M’Vila.

Even if Frimpong is loaned out, I can’t see Wenger selling Diaby despite his injury problems, so that leaves a lot of competition. Who’s Lansbury going to realistically replace?

Absolutely in my opinion lansbury is already part of the.first team squad. wenger usually works with 9 midfielders and only allowed lansbury to go on loan because he had 9 when he sent him out. uf he.had known that wilshire and diaby would miss the whole season and that frimpong and coquelin would take so much time out i dont think lansbury would have gone. imo he will start the season with song coquelin arteta wilshire ramsey lansbury rosicky plus 2 more either frimpong and diaby could be in that but so could 2 new signings.

There are so many good young midfielders at the club. Imo he’s a quality player who just lacks a really good 1st touch. Admittedly I haven’t seen that many of his games, but he seems to have great determination, enthusiasm, athleticism and overall very good technique, but he always seems to have a bit of a weak first touch whenever I’ve watched him. I think that has been the difference between him and Frimpong, who seems to be marginally better in that department. I think Wenger does really like lansbury, but whether he would be able to challenge the 1st team next season, I’m not sure. Would he be better than Ramsey, I suppose is the best measure, and I’m not sure about that. Ramsey is clearly better technically, but does have a bit to learn to be really effective. Lansbury seems more adaptable and just seems able to make things happen. It’s certainly worth thinking about giving Lansbury a chance. Whether he ends up staying or moving on, I’m sure he will be a solid PL player at the very least.

He can’t make regular first team for Westham, why Arsenal ?

Not good enough!! Cant start for championship west ham, shows how poor our squad is that this is even a consideration. loan out frimpong and coquelin bring in m’vila, starting midfield of song m’vila an wilshere with arteta rotating between them. Also another wide player if arshavin dosnt come back.

I say yes he is a true gooner who would give everything to the team and is defensively far more aware of his responsibilities than most of our midfield player to me he is a better version of Ray Parlour and should be given the chance. I would rather have him than Diaby, who is just taking up a squad place. He doesn’t start at West Ham because Allardyce doesn’t play through the midfield and when he does play he always has an impact. We need like Lansbury who give blood, sweat and tears for the club and is still technically good.

He’s definitely worth a shot. He just needs to have more patience and wait for his opportunity. Otherwise he could find himself like so many of our other one time Arsenal youth stars- Not Forgotten But Gone. JET being the biggest example of a lack of patience from our youngsters. I personally felt that given more time in training and cup comps he could have become as good as Adebeyor. But now he’s at Ipswich earning occasional credit.
If Lansbury can stick it out and wait for his shot I think he could be our FRANK LAMPARD. He’s got that look about him. I for one hopes that he stays

He has had a good season at West Ham. I have always liked him. He in my opinion is ahead of the waste of space Diaby and on current form maybe Rambo !!!!
Yes keep and play him !!
