Surely he won’t go to Russia!!!

Well this reported summer move for Robin van Persie will certainly test both Arsenal’s and the player’s resolve.

The Daily Mail reports Anzhi Makhachkala are preparing a £45 million move for the 28-year-old Arsenal captain, which could see the 28-year-old pocket a whopping £300,000-a-week!!!

The Gunners have offered Van Persie £130,000-a-week, but the striker has stalled on it, with reports claiming the Dutch international wants to be paid in the same bracket as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi (somewhere near the £275,000-a-week mark).

And if Arsenal are not willing to give him what he supposedly wants then, realistically, only Manchester City and Anzhi can.

Anzhi billionaire owner Suleyman Kerimov has told Guus Hiddink that players can earn well over the £300,000-a-week mark, which works out roughly at £15 million a year, tax free, and the 65-year-old has hinted about making a move for a Dutch player this summer:

‘In this summer’s transfer period we are going to get a couple of really well targeted investments to build this Anzhi team into an even bigger side in world football.

‘We have made it possible to break into the top five in Russian football. We are now among the traditional strong teams from Moscow and St Petersburg. But we need to make even bigger steps than we have done so far, to play for the top spots.

‘Initially I was not going to put my eye on a Dutch player, but now I am not ruling out that this could take place.’

So it seems Van Persie has to decide whether he wants to pocket £45 million over a three year period and play his football in Russia, stay at Arsenal, where he is loved by all, or move to one of Europe’s big boys for less money.

The ball is now in his court.

I would be sad to leave him leave, but if he chooses Anzhi over the likes of Barcelona or Real Madrid then clearly he is init for the money.

If you are going to leave this summer Robin then at least do it for footballing reasons and not for the green.

there’s no way he will go there. I’m pretty confident he will re-sign. Forget all the rubbish speculation from hacks.

nice to see you condemning him as a prick before he’s actually done anything jay. I’m sure that kind of thinking really helps galvanize his mind.

Good to see you’re using some very reliable sources there. Daily mail hacks are always invited at the table when Arsenal do their contract negotiations. Oh…

If RVP goes to play in Russia he better prepare himself for lifestyle different than he is used to in London. First order of business – hire body guards for himself , his wife and the kids.

  • MartyP says:

Come on does anyone really think a 130,000 week is the prevailig wage for a striker of his caliber?

  • Dav says:

A striker who has averaged 20 games a season? I would say it’s a bit over inflated
