Time for Arsenal to make a move?

|

Well it looks like we are the frontrunners to land Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud this summer, after Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness effectively ruled out signing the French ace.

The 25-year-old, who has scored 18 goals in 27 Ligue 1 appearances so far for Montpellier this season, has been heavily linked with Arsenal, as Arsene Wenger looks to strengthen his attacking options ahead of the new campaign.

Bayern appeared to be Arsenal’s biggest competition for the France international. However this doesn’t seem to be the case anymore, as the president of the German club explained they are in the hunt for a striker, but not one that is similar to a player they already have at their disposal:

‘He was impressive when he played for France in the friendly against Germany.

‘But he is a player who is very similar to Mario Gomez and we are looking for a striker to complement his style.’

Newcastle, Aston Villa, Napoli and Juventus have also all reportedly been linked with the striker. Not to sound cocky or brash, but these clubs shouldn’t exactly pose a threat and stop Wenger in his pursuit of Giroud.

There is no time like the present and it seems Wenger agrees, as he has reportedly asked French chief scout Gilles Grimandi to compile a dossier on Giroud ASAP.

If Arsenal want to sign Giroud then they should do it as quickly as possible. Perhaps they should wait until the end of the season and concentrate on the job at hand, but they must make a move for him before the start of Euro 2012. If we don’t, then forget about seeing him at The Emirates next season.

  • Paul says:

Not sure why we need him with podolski coming????

    • George says:

we need him because chamakh bendter and vela are all leaving and park a possibility, so that means were get joel campbell back and giroud will be needed to compete with van persie, and podolski will be a more wide left to replace arshavin

Arsenal has been lacking in the final third and the rumours linking us with Giroud are just welcomed. If we can get both podolski and Giroud then there is no need for attacking midfielder as Van Persie can play behind Giroud and podolski on the left. We should also get Vertonghen as vermaelen is injury prone. Lastly we nid a holding midfielder so Song can have some rest. M’villa perhaps. With these four signings I’m sure we can challenge for trophies next season
