The day Tommy Gunner misfired

|

But it was another mistake by Tommy that let in James Mackie who calmly picked out Samba Diakhite in the Arsenal box who then smashed the ball past a hapless Wojo in goal.

Wenger responded by throwing on Gervinho for Ramsey and subsequently Arteta was pulled out for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, while Marouane Chamakh replaced Gibbs.

But nothing changed and the game finished 2-1. The result was a major boost to QPR’s survival bid, while putting a dent on Arsenal’s march to secure a Champions League spot.

This was a game simply won and lost by one man’s mistakes and it hurts to see arguably our best centre-back and vice-captain spilling the beans.

My point of concern was Wenger’s ploy to condemn the left wing and let Ramsey play instead of Ox or Geo. You could argue that it worked against Villa a week ago, but the Villa team we played were quite unserious in their approach and they never looked to trouble us. The plan was for Gibbo to provide an attacking outlet wide left as Rambo was given more a central disposition.

Looking more critically at Arsene’s formation of not fielding a natural wide man on the left, one would have expected Theo to drift from wing to wing as firstly he was the only wide man provider for RVP and secondly, he wasn’t having much joy against Taye Taiwo, who for me is an average defender.

I am still pondering why Wenger has so much love for Ramsey, who has shown over and over again that he is very average.

Rosicky was the first to suffer the Ramsey syndrome, but top class displays from the Czech have forced Wenger’s hand to give.

Gervinho and the Ox are Wenger’s latest victims of the Ramsey syndrome, as the Frenchman has chosen to bench more potent threats for a Ramsey who, in my humble opinion, should be a squad player coming up to relieve the first-team players with few minutes to spare.

Time and time again I have seen Wenger attempt the overload mode by removing a defender (Per before) and Gibbo last time out only to drop Song into the centre-back position. Whatever happened to the 3-5-2 formation when you need to salvage a match? Dropping Song into defence not only defeats the essence of overload mode, but it also disrupts our midfield and takes our most likely candidate for an assist farther away from the opposition goal. Moreover, when the opponents decide to counter attack, there is no natural foil of a defensive midfielder to protect the back-line.

Well I won’t be rating Wenger on this one, but as I said, everything rises and falls on leadership. When we win he gets the credit, but I don’t know who’ll take the stick when we lose.

As it stands we are level on point with our classless neighbours and with two feisty encounters with Citeh and Chelski coming up, Arsenal had better oil their guns to avoid it jamming on them and letting their hard work of the past few weeks amount to nothing.
