He arrived from Zenit St. Petersburg in 2009, for reportedly £15 million, making him Arsenal’s record signing to date. A player no doubt every Arsenal fan was excited to see come in. One who at the time was worth breaking the bank for. I am of course talking about Andrey Arshavin.
However, his last 18 months or so at The Emirates have been very disappointing and unproductive to say the very least. As a result of his alarming dip in form, Arsene Wenger sent the 30-year-old out on loan to his former club just two months ago.
The Frenchman still keeps tabs on Arshavin, and hasn’t ruled out bringing back the Russian to the club at the end of the season. Though Andrey says he wants to speak to Wenger before making any decision over his future, amid reported interest from Dynamo Moscow.
The Russian international is said to be one of their top summer targets and are reportedly preparing a £5million summer offer for the experienced star.
Taking all this into account, I ask – Should we take the proposed £5 million offer and run?
Personally, I don’t think so. £5 million is too small a sum to even consider, especially having splashed out £15 million for him just three years ago. The loss would be too great, and who knows, Arshavin could be back to his former self next season.
In my view, I just believe he is going through a really rough patch at the moment. Every striker goes through one now and then.
We all know what he is capable of producing when he’s on song. The Russian just needs some help, guidance and support. We all know that if he was at his absolute best, players like Gervinho, Theo Walcott and Yossi Benayoun wouldn’t even get into the starting line-up.
What do you guys think – Should Arsenal entertain Dynamo’s proposed £5 million bid for Arshavin?

his ‘rough patch’ is now 2 1/2 years long. he is over 30. he apparently caused friction in the squad due to his lazy ways. SELL
Is it a gamble worth taking … No.
He is still a good/ (great) player when he wants to be, but over 30, with new players waiting in the line and the prospect of buying in new players… I say sell, if 5 million is what we can get then take it, wish him the very best and cut his wages from the list.
He was brought in to secure us 4th spot… to his credit, he did it, and he did it in some style i might add… but since then, it has all been downhill.
Could he do a ros… sure, why not?… but we cannot rely on that being the case and it may stop us buying in the talent we need.
very true. My sentiments exactly.
IF he played to his best, IF he wasn’t heading to 31, IF he ditched his lazy ways, IF he could rekindle his desire to play football….just seems like a lot of hoping if you ask me. Saying that though everyone thought Rosicky was done and should be sold and look at him now. Difficult to call….
The era of Arshavin in Arsenal should be over. Sell him for what ever amount. If possible give him out for free.
I think it better to leave him at Arsenal, who know he might pick up again considering what happened to Rosicky. Selling him off for just 5million is not a good deal. He will add depth to our squad if he stays
Absolutely agree with all the others let him go. he is already behind walcott gervinho and chamberlain and will probably be behind podolski and ryo too. imo the only place he could play is in rosickys position and with benayoun going and diaby still coming up short and lansbury not improving that would be his best shot. for me his place has gone and so has his time. we need someone like hazard belhanda sessegnon or dempsey to be challenging rosicky next season whilst grabbing as much cash as we can for diaby denilson squillaci botelho djourou park chamakh bendtner vela fabianski and of course arshavin.
required weise isla vertonghen mvila suarez huntelaar podolski and one of those i just mentioned.
Sell !
One criticism of wenger… Arshavin was too old to be adapted to the wide position, he is not a walcott or chamberlain.
I think we missed a great opportunity by not playing him behind the striker… Who knows what would have been, but he clearly wasn’t prepared to go the distance on the wing, yet for his country he is lethal off the striker.
I mean, im not sure wenger played him there once despite sticking with players like chamakh and bender up front. Would have been a decent line up playing song, arshavin, ros, theo, chamberlain/ benny and robin as the front 6 with our first choice back 5
at least 7m please
arsenal needs to buy in the summer….chelsea just got marko marin for christ sake
