‘We will do anything possible to keep him’

Arsene Wenger has reiterated that he and the Arsenal board will do everything in their power to keep hold of captain Robin van Persie beyond his existing deal at The Emirates.

Following their 2-1 victory over Liverpool yesterday afternoon, the Frenchman was quoted in the Daily Mail saying:

‘We will do anything possible to keep him. I cannot say much more because I have said that many times.

‘I am very proud that he has grown, having seen the boy arrive here timid and today being the player he is and the leader of the team he has become.

‘He is playing under big pressure in every game because he knows he has to score – that is excellent development not only as a player but as a human being.’

Wenger finished off by claiming the Dutch striker is up there with the best in the world:

‘He is up there among the best players in the world.’

Van Persie netted a brace at Anfield yesterday, one being a sublime stoppage time volley, which took his goal tally to 30 this season.

However, the worrying thing is RVP is yet to open negotiations over a new deal at Arsenal, leaving everyone at the club on edge. But the Dutchman recently claimed that he is ‘a true Gunner’ and will wait until the end of the season until he discusses his future, which is pretty reassuring I think.

After yet bagging another two goals for himself and three points for the Gunners, it’s evidently clear that Robin is the man at Arsenal and MUST be kept at the club at all costs!

The Holland international is reportedly the top earner at the club, raking in £90k-a-week, and, in my opinion, should be given what he wants and deserves.

Let’s not see another Cesc Fabregas saga unfold!

Keep your biggest star and other will follow and arrive. End of!

This title sounds a little defeatist. The fact is that he is still an Arsensl player, he loves Arsenal, what happens at the end of the season depends on AW himself and the board does. The trouble for me is the fact that both have failed the fans over the last 7 years by selling our best players too readily.

Everyone assumes that RVP will leave Arsenal, largely for financial reasons & to win trophies.
Although this seems a likely outcome it assumes he is like most other money grabbing mercenary footballers. However not evey one is the same. Who’d have thought that Gerrard & Reina would still be at L’pool? As for RVP…

He has been at Arsenal for 8 years & is well settled in London with his family so he may not want to up-root his children & move elsewhere.

In Arsenals 125 year celebrations he has seen how true club legends are revered by the club
& how the returning Thiery Henry was treated.
If he choses to stay he’ll no doubt become one of those select few. Part of a clubs fabric rather than someone who just passed through, like Fabregas.

He is clearly currently relishing his role as captain & his position in the club.

So, provided AFC come up with an acceptable wage package & can convince him that they have real ambition to compete with Europes top teams, he may well decide to stay.

Just get Podolski and another top player to convince him to stay, simple as that.
