Should Arsenal give up on this man?

Injury has once again hit Abou Diaby, although it is thought that his latest setback will not keep him out of the side for a long period.

It was almost two years ago when the French midfielder was making frequent appearances for Arsenal, making 40 appearances during the course of the season. However, three operations on his ankle inside 18 months has kept him on the sidelines for a long period of time. Diaby has shown previously that he can be a great player if it wasn’t for his numerous injuries.

Bacary Sagna came out this week and said of his fellow countryman:

‘Without injuries Diaby would surely be the best French footballer. I am devastated for him.’

Obviously these are very kind words from Bacary, giving support to his team-mate who only lasted 26 minutes in Arsenal’s last game against Liverpool.

In all fairness, I think Arsenal have come this far with his injuries and it’s really not good enough that we’ve had a player who has been sidelined for such a lengthy spell. However, I do think that the club do need to stick by him, but we also need to protect ourselves and tell him that we aren’t prepared to wait much longer, and that he has to get back to full fitness within 6-12 months time or we should show him the door.

Injuries have plagued our season once again and there may have to be some very hard decisions to make at the end of the season as a result. Frequent injuries to the same group of players may result in them having to leave the side because as Robin van Persie has proven this season we need these players fit and playing, not sitting on the treatment table.

Diaby seems optimistic regarding his latest injury and knows that it has been a very long road for him and Arsenal.

Speaking about what has happened since his three operations, the 25-year-old had this to say:

‘My body was totally unbalanced between my left and right leg. One leg compensated for the weakness of the other – and to put back in its place is not easy. My problem is biomechanical. It will take some time. When everything is back in order, I won’t have pain anymore.’

So should Arsenal give him more time? Personally, I think we should give him another 6-12 months and let him prove to everyone that he deserves to be at the club. Should he not be able to do it in this space of time then I think we need to move on, sell him and acquire a replacement.

We should show Diaby as much loyalty as it takes. He was the victim and … congratulations to the nasty little thug of a Sunderland player who did him !! I can’t remember your name and obscurity is the best place for you.

I think we’ve already shown enough loyalty to be honest. Eduardo got 12 months and we’ve given Diaby 6 years. He’s a drain on the wages and when he actually is fit he slows down our attack. Get rid and buy M’Vila…..

We waited forever for RVP and Rosicky so why not for Diaby?

  • The Don says:

i think we should give him untill the end of this season

if he players a few games i think we will see his a great footballer.

but his been getting wages for 7 years for doing nothing at the club.

we could give his wages to v perise who diserves it more then diaby.
