Arsenal youngster Nico Yennaris has been sent out on loan to Notts County for the remainder of the season.

The 18-year-old right-back broke into the Arsenal first-team this season due to injuries to both Carl Jenkinson and Bacary Sagna. The England Under-19 international has still yet to make his firs Premier League appearance for the Gunners, but made a total of three in the Carling and FA Cup.

Yennaris, who can also play at centre-back or in midfield, has also played 17 times for the reserves this season.

However, with Sagna back and Jenkinson fit as well, Arsene Wenger has decided to send Yennaris to League One outfit Notts County in order to continue his development and gain more first-team experience.

To be fair I think this is a good move for the youngster.

Yennaris has the ability to do well at Arsenal, but unfortunately he is behind Sagna in the pecking order. However, if he does well out on loan at Notts, who knows what next season holds for the Leytonstone-born defender.

What a shame. In his few appearances recently he’s looked mature beyond his years/1st team opportunities. Personally, I’d have given him a few more outs in what remains of the season to boost his confidence and sense of belonging but AW is a mysterious bugger at the best of times and seems to lack empathy for these young English players on the periphery. Perhaps permanent periphery.

With the team trying to secure a CL place, I don’t think now is the time to blood new players. Right decision by Wenger

So you think its worth risking an 18 year old in place of the best right back in the Uk in a critical part of the season, and risk champions league football next year? Thats why we have a cranky old bugger (who seems to know what he’s doing) in charge and you sir, just pass comments with little premier league managerial experience?

I have to agree. These are crucial games now. Can’t be trying out players at this stage. It’s a good move to let him get experience. Looks like the academy is starting to bear fruit. Good times ahead.

I thought he was a midfielder? Just that he was used as rb in the first team
