Arsenal stormed back from a two goal deficit to smash north London rivals Spurs 5-2 at The Emirates this afternoon.

Goals from Bacary Sagna, Robin van Persie, Tomas Rosicky and Theo Walcott (2) ensured the Gunners bagged all three points, reclaim fourth spot and have closed the gap on Spurs, who still sit in third, to just 7 points.

Louis Saha put the visitors ahead in the 4th minute after being put through by Emmanuel Adebayor. The Frenchman hit a tame shot that hit Thomas Vermaelen and looped over a hapless Wojciech Szczesny. Things went from bad to worse for Arsenal a few minutes later when a dubious penalty was awarded, which former Gunner Adebayor converted.

Despite Arsenal’s pressure, it remained 2-0 for the majority of the half. However Arsene Wenger’s men pulled one back in the 40th minute when Mikel Arteta clipped the ball into the box from outside the area which Sagna headed in from close range. They bagged the equaliser before the first 45 thanks to a wonderful 18-yard curler from Robin van Persie.

The Gunners eventually took the lead in the 50th minute when Rosicky clipped home Arsenal’s third after meeting a low cross from Sagna, before Walcott netted a brace of goals in the 65th and 68th minute, thus resulting in a great result and day for the club and its fans.

So what FIVE things did we learn from the Gunners today?

    No Ramsey and we win!

Just like with Denilson the whole team can fall apart with slow, thick central midfield players. Ramsey is the new Denilson.

We scored 7 against Blackburn. We score 5 against Spurs.

Need to spend, spend this summer. RVP will win the golden boot.

  • Admir says:

1.Walcott can score more then once.

2.Sagna is one of the best right backs in the world.

3.Sloppy defending can be covered sometimes with perfect attacking display.

4.Van Persie will be missed at Anfield.

5.When spine of the team is playing well (Sczeszny-Vermaelen-Arteta-Van Persie), Arsenal can beat every team in Europe.

    1. Something stoked the fires in their bellies. The game was won today because we won the 50/50 challenges (about 100% of them after our first goal)

    2. The defence is still a shambles. But this is because we don´t really play with a defence. Most teams play with their midfielders right in front of the defence, and look to counterattack. This is not the way we will play with Wenger.

    3. RVP will be fully grey by the end of the season. This is both good and bad. Good because top teams don´t buy grey players. Bad because when they do, it´s normally for less that 10 million.

    4. It´s easy being the underdog. Tottenham showed us today how good Arsenal have been for so long, just staying in the top four.

    5. Tottenham were BAAAAAD. We´ll need more than just fighting spirit to finish 4th, although it was a wonderful surprise. And yes, maybe it does get you thinking about the fixture in 9 days with mischievous grin, rather than a groan.

Shall we make a DVD 😀 heheheheh

    1) We can beat any big team in the world when we’re in the mood. Problem is we’re not in the mood enough of the time.

    2) Our defense is still quite poor and lack communication. TV is supposed to organize the defense but he has not been that successful at doing so lately.

    3) Theo has the ability, just not the consistency and consistency is what makes the greats great, not flash in the pan performances noce a month.

    4) The Spuds are still in the pit having to come up against the Mancs, an in-form Everton at Goodison and the Chavs. These games will define their season.

    5) Despite an excellent display, Wenger still needs to buy some top quality players. The AKBs will tell you otherwise throughout the week.

Who’s the boss now Bale? ‘spurs are the better team…’ even diving doesn’t help now, does it? Play football the better way… The Arsenal way.

  • JohnW says:

Should the Arsenal avoid defeat at Liverpool this week, I think they will still maintain their top 4 position, because i think Spurs will beat Chelsea. It was nice play today from our midfield, Sagna also did well to limit Bale’s influence. I now think Arsenal can finish above Spurs

1 poor defensive play early on by midfield and defence cld have cost us dearly. lack of reading of game and picking up runners early on left us exposed far to much
2 when we pass and move for each other we gain confidence
3 challenging for balls and closing down oppo defenders help the team overall and takes pressure off others
4 key players cann change games even when heads are down
5 win need to strengthen in depth thro the spine and keep hold of rvp. sadly his performance shows if we dont he will leave. we need to buy quality to match hos personal aspirations-and give him a wage rise!!
