Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal legend Thierry Henry will return to New York Red Bulls on the 17th of February.

Despite Wenger revealing earlier in the month that he was looking into the possibility of extending Henry’s loan spell beyond the scheduled date, New York Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe recently revealed that he expects the French striker to report back on time for pre-season training ahead of the new MLS campaign which begins in March.

Backe was quoted on ESPN Soccernet:

‘When I spoke to him, he told me that he was 100% coming back on February 17. What I know, it’s only rumours. I haven’t heard anything from them [Arsenal] about extending the loan.’

Wenger today confirmed:

‘I would have loved Thierry to stay for two more weeks but he has to go back. It’s only fair on New York.’

Henry will depart the north London club on the 16th of February after next week’s Champions League game against AC Milan at the San Siro.

Since returning to Arsenal at the turn of the year, the legendary Frenchman has managed two net two goals in five appearances for his former club.

Looks like his last ever Premier League game will come tomorrow at the Stadium of Light against Sunderland…well, if he gets picked or comes off from the bench again!
